Brenham, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. Brenham is part of the Corpus Christi–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Brenham were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1874. They named their settlement "Moses" after Moses Halliday, an American missionary and Episcopal priest who had visited the area earlier that year. Brenham's history dates back to 1881 when a group of farmers from Louisiana bought land in what is now Hudspeth County and founded the town of Brenham on a rise overlooking the Brazos River. The original town was built on a small floodplain surrounded by fields of corn and beans. In 1912, Brenham became one of four towns in Hudspeth County to be designated as business districts (the others being Millington, Sayreville and White Settlement). In 1923, then-Governor James Foard designated Brenham as the county seat of Hudspeth County. At that time, it included all but two square miles (1/4 mile) of present-day Grenada Township. In 1959, due to growing oil production in nearby Eagle Ford Shale field and other development around it within Hudspeth County, BrenHAMs official name reverted back to "BrenHAM". That same year saw the opening of one of largest shopping centers west of Dallas when Interstate 10 corridor was extended through downtown Corpus Christi into what would become known as "The Center". A second shopping center opened eastward along I-10 near Clear Lake just south of downtown Corpus Christi in 2002 which helped spur economic growth throughout much of central Texas during this period - with particular emphasis on North Carolina City across from Itasca Park Shopping Center - also known locally as "The Loop". Today much larger than ever before with over 1 million square feet (100 m2), Itasca Park Shopping Center anchors Crossroads Square off I-10 between downtown CorpusChristi and Itasca Airport. CentralTexasLink has recently completed its $170 million renovation project which includes expanding several anchor stores including JCPenney & Sears HRD; adding more than 50 new jobs; rebranding most existing stores to better reflect their latest technologies; And adding two new levels underground parking garage with room for up to 350 cars simultaneously! Itasca Park Shopping Center's growth continued into 2006 when they announced they were considering building another level underground parking garage - doubling capacity! - pending final approvals from city officials however this never came about as plans changed again prior to election season 2013 which led many local residents fear annexation into neighboring cities could happen if approved! Today Itasca Park Shopping Center continues to be one major engine for economic development for both nearby municipalities as well as outside travelers visiting corpus christi!
