Brenham is a town in Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Brenham is one of four municipalities in the county that are considered micropolitan areas by the US Census Bureau. The first settler in Brenham was George A. Brown on March 9, 1881. The town was founded as a cattle station on a large tract of land grant given to him by General Sam Houston. In 1893, John Pemberton became the first mayor of Brenham and served until 1905 when he resigned because of ill health. On January 6, 1907, Mayor Pemberton's widow Elmira sold her interest in the town to J.C Penney for $10 000 cash which included all her husband's stock holdings in Brenham and $5 000 worth of real estate within it (the present day Broadway Cemetery). The Watkins family also took an interest in Brenham and developed some properties within it including Springdale which they still own today In 1915 Wacoal Green bought out J C Penney's interest for $25 000 On February 10th 1917 Mrs Watkins donated land from her Springdale property to house what would become known as Baylor University’s School of Business Administration In 1957 Dr James Mclendon purchased property adjacent to Springdale and merged this with his springdale ranch into what would become known as Baylor University’s McLendon School of Veterinary Medicine Today there are two main buildings housing Baylor University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Dr James Mclendon’s former ranching operation - these buildings are commonly referred to as “The Tower” or simply “The Tower” . beside them stands another building built specifically for veterinary school purposes - this building is commonly referred to as “The Barn” . both buildings can be found on Main Street just north of downtown Brenham Brenham has experienced many changes over its history; indeed it has undergone more than one name change! One such change came about in 1907 when Mayor Pemberton's widow Elmira sold her interest in the town to J C Penney for $10 000 cash which included all her husband's stock holdings in Brenham and $5000 worth of real estate within it (the present day Broadway Cemetery). This second name change occurred due largely to community concern over lack OF water storage capacity - at that time most towns had small lakes or ponds used primarily for swimming/fishing/boating/water skiing etc., rather than providing municipally-owned water tanks like BrenHAM did! For many years after that event much discussion took place among residents about whether or not they should adopt a new name based upon their concerns about our lacking infrastructure back then! Ultimately however, everyone chose "BrenHAM"minus the "american" because they felt that "america" sounded too formalized & polished while "brenHAM" communicated more effectively with their local populace...thus we continue today with our original name + updated logo
