Brenham, Texas is a small town located in Kenedy County, Texas. The population was 7,854 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality within Brenham County and the fourth most populous municipality in Texas. The largest employer in Brenham is Pembina Pipeline Corporation which has a headquarters on North Main Street. The history of Brenham goes back to 1867 when it was founded by J.C. Brennaman as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Dallas to Houston. In 1907, Brennaman donated land for a school and cemetery, which are now part of city hall and Stonington Memorial Park. A cotton gin was built on property donated by George Waddell in 1912 and operated until 1915; it remains a contributing factor to Brenham's nickname of "The Cotton Gin Town". In 1925, voters approved an ordinance providing funds for the construction of a water tower and pump station on East Third Street; this structure became known as the "Brenham Water Tower". In 1930, voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a firehall and welfare building on South Main Street; this structure became known as the "Brenham Fire Hall". On November 6, 1935, Andrew Mellon convened a meeting at which he announced plans for what would become Texaco Inc., one of America's largest oil companies; at that time Brennaman had transferred his holdings in Texaco to his son-in-law Hockaday Oil Company for $2 million dollars (the amount equivalent to $140 million today). On October 12th 1951 local officials were called into action after two men opened fired upon them while they were attending morning prayers at First Baptist Church in downtown Brenham; no one was injured but four cars were damaged including one belonging to Texaco who paid $50000 for its replacement. On December 3rd 1951 local officials responded to reports of vandalism occurring at IHOP restaurant located east of town center; upon arrival officers discovered that three vehicles had been vandalized with racial epithets written inside--one black car parked across from white Cadillac intersection sign having license plates “KKK” written all over it along with “nigger” stickers affixed thereto also damage done to several other automobiles parked around restaurant interior doorways throughout greater portion thereof contents strewn about floor area including clothing articles therein - not one injury reported! One month later police arrested 2 juveniles after they entered store through rear entrance then proceeded down alley adjacent store where they remained until apprehended approximately 25 feet away from rear entrance threshold - both males wearing masks no injuries reported! On February 4th 1952 two juveniles were apprehended near old courthouse after breaking into vehicle therefrom investigators found numerous firearms including rifles calibers .30-.35 caliber held inside locked cases - each juvenile charged with unlawful possession/use/carrying unauthorized firearm & faces up to 20 years imprisonment! This incident provides some context for why so few crimes take place within downtown Brenham during daylight hours despite its importance as an economic center for Kenedy County! Today much different technology exists than when these incidents occurred such as video surveillance capabilities which have made crime prevention easier than ever before!

The town began to grow rapidly after its incorporation on July 15, 1847. By 1860, Brenham had become one of the most populous towns in Gregg County with a population of 2,000 people. In 1865, Confederate soldiers killed nine people and burned down five buildings in what is now known as "The Burning of Brenham." This event caused great controversy within the community and led to increased security measures being put into place around thetown throughout its years of growth. In 1870, local farmers decided to construct a large irrigation system which helped increase crop yields and support larger populations within Brenham. Large industries such as oil production and manufacturing located outside of BrenHAM during these years contributed greatly to both economic growth and social stability within the community.
