In 1907 cattle drives brought settlers to this region and soon there were two stores and a post office here. By 1916 the town had six buildings: two hotels, one store and three churches. It had 1,500 residents then and grew rapidly during World War I with heavy production at munitions plants such as Beatty & Hickey Ammunition Company on Uptown Road (now Loop 820). After that war came postwar boom times; Brenham reached its peak population of 10,000 in 1950 with new subdivisions being developed in all directions around downtown – including east side streets that still run today called “The Avenues” (Broadway Drive/Southwestern Boulevard), just south of Interstate 35W between Airport Blvd./Uptown Rd./Loop 820 and La Villita Blvd./I-35W (the original airport location). And growth continued thereafter as annexation by other communities led to more development along I-35W including Plano/Aurora north of Loop 820; Midland Park/Copperfield east of I-635; Liberty Village off FM 1960/I-10 west of Loop 820; Lubbock off US 90 north of FM 1320; Slaughterhouse Creek Ranch northeast TX within Dripping Springs City Limits

Brenham is a town in Fayette County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Brenham is located on the Brazos River and sits at an elevation of 663 feet (191 m). The word "brenham" comes from the Cherokee word "birn-a-ha", meaning "place where cattle were pastured." In 1836, two brothers, James and John Brenham, founded what would become Brenham. They named their community after a nearby rancho which they had seen while traveling through central Texas. When James died in 1845, his brother John took over management of the rancho. John Brenham continued to live in BrenHAM until his death in 1902. In 1907, a post office called Brenton was established in neighbouring Tarrant County. In 1911, BrenHAM incorporated as a city under the name ofHouston. The original Houston municipal building burned down in 1951; however, a new building was completed within one year and remains today as the city's mainframe facility. In 1970–71 Houston annexed much of Fayette County including BrenHAM – making it part of its expanded city limits by statute but never incorporated into Houston proper as per planning regulations set forth by City Manager David Luchtman (now Mayor Annise Parker). According to the 2000 US Census there were 4,751 people living in BrenHAM; 3% more then than when it first reported its population to the Federal government via US censuses conducted every 10 years or so starting with decennial census enumerations taken before 1900: 3 711 100%

In 1915, the city experienced a devastating fire that destroyed much of its infrastructure including the courthouse, schools and businesses. The town rebuilt quickly and by 1930 had a population of 10,000 people. However, during World War II Brenham became known as one of the most bombed cities in Texas due to its importance as an airport. After the war, the city saw a significant growth with the addition of new housing developments and businesses. In recent years, Brenham has seen growing popularity as a tourist destination thanks to its large selection of cultural attractions such as museums and art galleries.
