By 1872, theflat had been abandoned and its residents relocated to other parts of Williamson County. However, by 1899 Brenham had again become an isolated village with just three dwellings and one store. However, since World War II Brenham's growth has been steady and significant. The town's first post office opened in 1945 and it has since grown into a major center for trade and transportation in Williamson County. A number of businesses have been built in Brenham over the years including truck stop, gas station/convenience store/diner (now called Texaco), mechanic shop/auto body shop (now operated by Mid-America Ford), Reynholm Chevrolet dealership (now operated by Jiffy Lube), restaurant (later renamed Red Lobster), grocery store (later named Piggly Wiggly), two school districts - District 2A which serves portions of neighboring Allenville before moving to West TX Intermediate School District No. 10 near Interstate 35W; and District 2B which serves portions of nearby Montrose before moving to East TX Intermediate School District No. 9 near Interstate 45W In recent times some businesses have closed or moved away from Brenham such as Texaco which closed its doors in 2001; Jiffy Lube which closed its doors in 2009 due to low sales levels; Red Lobster which closed its doors in 2011; Piggly Wiggly which closed their doors in early 2016 after more than 30 years operations
