From 1907 to 1915 Jno Pemberton served as PostmasterGeneral; he also served as Mayor from 1912-1920 inclusive In 1916 rural telephone service began within one mile of town limits; however this service faded away by 1922 when telephone lines were extended into Gregg County beyond that radius In 1935 there were only three residents living in Borger; all of them employed by White Sands Missile Range . However by 1937 there were over 100 people living here including many farmers involved in production around missile range When World War II began BorGER knew they would have to provide food - they had several hundred hogs but no grain so they raised corn which gave them some stability during the war years
