Borger, Texas is a city in Medina County, Texas. The population of the city was 14,911 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Medina County. The earliest known reference to Borger comes from 1876 and it is said that the town was founded by German immigrants who named it "Borgerhausen." In 1907, an act was passed which changed the name of the town to Borger after Friedrich Wilhelm Borger, a wealthy farmer in nearby Waco. The first post office opened in 1909 and remained in operation until 1951. In 1927, a bypass was built through downtown BorGERt allowing for more efficient travel within Medina County. This project cost $2 million dollars and took two years to complete. In 1930-1931, a new waterworks system was completed which included a pipeline from Cedar Creek west to Medina River creating one of the most important infrastructure projects in Medina County's history. On November 5th, 1938 voters approved annexation by Medina County of unincorporated Howard County (later Dallas). The incorporation process took several months and on January 2nd 1939borger had become part of Medina County with its own government and school district
