Borger, Texas is a small town in Wise County, Texas. The population was 992 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Amarillo-Wise Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Borger were farmers who came from Nebraska in 1881. They built a log cabin and started trading with the Indians. In 1905, they founded a post office and store on what is today First National Bank Drive. They also developed a large cotton acreage which produced crops such as corn, wheat, cottonseed, soybeans, and cattle until around 1970 when it was abandoned for lack of rain or other resources. In 1916 two brothers named John and Wesley Borger started an oil well near present day Third Street and US 95 to exploit shale found in the area. The wells produced oil until the early 1990s when production stopped because of environmental concerns about drilling mud that migrated into drinking water supplies close to Borger homes

Borger III for $3,000 cash plus land within Arlington County for development purposes into an independent municipality with its own government and school system. At that time Arlington County consisted only of Fort Worth Township including Borger and portions of Dripping Springs, Garland Heights and Richland Hills
Borger, Texas was founded by John Borger in 1847. The town was named for John Borge, a settler who had come to the area in 1841. The first post office opened in Borger in 1853. In 1865, Borger served as the capital of Texas and became the state's second largest city after Austin. In 1936, Borger was annexed by Dallas and became a suburb of that city.
