Borger, Texas is a small town in the Midwestern United States. It is located in Johnson County, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Wichita Falls and 25 miles (40 km) south of Denton. The population was 1,385 at the 2010 census. The Borger community was founded in 1879 by Danish immigrants Hans Christian Borger and his wife Mathilde Kjærsgaard. They named their new settlement for their grandfather, Ludvig Borger, who had arrived in Texas from Denmark just two years earlier. In 1903, the Borgeres built a sawmill on what is now US Highway 281. The mill continued to produce lumber until it closed in 1948; however, the mill buildings remain standing and are currently used as a municipal building. In 1957, a group of local farmers formed the Citizens' Association to promote agrarian culture and improve agricultural conditions within the community. This led to the founding of the Borger Museum which still exists today as one of its main attractions.
