Borger, Texas is a small town in Waller County, Texas that is located just east of the Canadian border. The town was founded by Captain John Borger and his family in 1849. The Borgers were early settlers in this area and are considered to be the pioneers of what would become Waller County. In 1868, Captain John Borger married Anna Ballinger and they moved to what is now known as Watauga. There they began farming and ranching their land which would play an important role in the development of Borger. In 1895, Captain John Borger donated 2,000 acres of land to the waller county government for use as a parkland. This donation madeWaller County one of the first counties in Texas to recognize parkland designation. In 1918, Captain John Borger passed away and his wife Anna took over management of the property. Anna died in 1949 but her son, Donny Ballinger, continued managing it until 1978 when it was transferred to the Waller County Historical Society for further preservation. Donny Ballinger's tenure as Manager was very successful and he helped improve many aspects of the property including adding a visitor center,a performance hall/theater,an agricultural research lab and more! The society also renovated many parts of the building such as adding new flooring and painting! After Donny Ballinger's death in 1998 tensions between himself and some members of staff developed into a feud that lasted until 2003 when all claims against him were finally resolved without any physical violence! It should be noted that there have been no problems since then despite some members having recently left! Captain John Borger's Donation has played an important role throughout history with both local residents (such as DonnyBallinger)and outsiders visiting or researching Waller County come to appreciate its beauty at various points during my research process! I believe that if we can keep these propertiesotted with care then future generations will continueto enjoy them for years to come!
