Borger’s tenure as Mayor saw great change in the town, including the installation of a new water main, reconstruction of city hall, and passage of several important ordinances such as banishing gambling from Borger. In 1990, Lee Borger announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Although many considered him too young or inexperienced for this role, he won handily with over 50% of the vote. During his time as Lieutenant Governor, Borger made significant changes to state government including increasing access to education opportunities for low-income families and culminating in passage of the State Budget which increased funding for education by 20%. His work during this time also included creating a commission focused on improving transportation infrastructure in Texas statewide and working towards reducing crime rates within the state. Although his term ended prematurely due to cancer treatment at age 76, Lee BorGER has left an indelible mark on both BorGERandTexas alike - something that can be seen even today in how well-functioning its infrastructure is and how much progress has been made since he left office

Borger, Texas is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,033 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded by Reuben Borger in 1867 as a small farming community on the banks of the San Antonio River. In 1906, Reuben Borger married Lula Hardin and they moved to Borger from Weatherford, Oklahoma. They raised their family there and eventually became involved in local politics. In 1957, they were elected mayor of BorGERtown after serving two terms (1957-1959). In 1966, they were again elected Mayor; this time to an eight-year term (1966-1970). From 1970 until he died in 2001, Mayor Reuben Borger was one of the longestserving mayors in Austin history with over 33 years total service! During his tenure as Mayor of BorGERtown, Reuben Borger helped establish several important civic institutions including:the first high school in Austin (now called UTSA),the first library system in Austin (now called UT Library),and the first fire department in Austin (now known asAustin Fire Department). He also worked tirelessly to improve infrastructure such as roads and bridges within his jurisdiction which has resulted in increased development and commerce within his town.
