After the war the area became agricultural and development slowed until it resumed growth during the late 1970s when new Main Street were constructed and businesses opened up such as Plazatexter Rentals Inc., ChevronTexaco, Ford dealership and others. The current population (2000) is 10,569 with 9% African Americans making up 2% of total population
