Bonham, Texas is a small town located in Webb County, Texas. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Texarkana, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bonham was founded on November 1, 1887 by John A. Bonham and his family from Tennessee. The original post office in Bonham opened on December 11, 1887. The first store in Bonham was built by John A. Bonham and his wife Anna. The store lasted until 1902 when it burned down. In 1907, James Witherspoon started a grocery store at 12th and Elm Streets which continued to operate until 1951 when it was replaced by the present day BP convenience store at 201 E 6th Street. In 1912, the town had one hotel which closed in 1971 after years of being unable to keep up with increasing tourism demand due to its railroad junction location and mineral resources nearby. In 1966, the Webb County Commissioners voted not to build a new courthouse because they were concerned about traffic congestion caused by expanding county government into unincorporated areas near downtown Webb City (then known as Vernon). Instead they settled on building an annex for the Webb County Courthouse located off Loop 410 that would remain operational for only 10 years before being demolished due to budget shortfalls in 1999-2000 In 2006-2007 under pressure from local business owners who wanted more property tax relief because of increased competition from neighboring Amarillo and Lubbock communities their measure failed 54%-46% making it pass despite opponent’s assertions that such measures would lead to job losses or closures within bonHAMtown

In 1836, Bonham was founded by Zachary Bonham and his wife Abigail. The Bonham family operated a ranch in what is now southern Hidalgo County for many years. In 1854, the family moved to the current location ofbonham, Texas and began to farm land. They also built a ranch house which still stands today. The Bonhams were among the earliest settlers in what is now southern Hidalgo County. In 1886, they donated land to the county for public school purposes. Today,Bonham County School District operates public schools in the town of bonHAM
