The community was founded by James Bonham in 1871 and it was named for him. It officially became a town in 1907 and it has since grown to become a very large city with over 60,000 residents.
Bonham, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1881 by John A. Bonham and his family. The first post office was established in 1882. The name "Bonham" was derived from an early settler's description of a place on the Brazos River as being "a very good place for cattle." In 1902, a school was opened in the town and remained open until it closed in 1944. A church also opened soon after and continues to be active today. In 1935, Charles Ewing built the first gas station in Wichita Falls and called it Waco Station. He operated it until 1938 when he sold it to Texaco Incorporated This station became known as Texaco Plaza until it merged with Gulf Oil Co., which led to its current name of BP Headquarters Plaza – formerly Texaco Plaza – located on I-35W across from downtown Wichita Falls. In 1965, Jerald Tatum began construction of what would become Bonham Civic Center which served as both municipal hall and local school district offices until 1974 when it became home to First Baptist Church which remains one of the dominant denominations present today within the community though growth has occurred elsewhere including Morningside Elementary School adjacent to BP Headquarters since then (itself now part of Wichita Falls North High School). Churches have been among those homesharing their services throughout recent decades with various denominational groups having hosted services at various locations around town prior; however this most recent incarnation will see First Baptist Chapel relocate into ground floor retail space currently occupied by Southern Stars Casino following years’ worth of planning and construction work that included demolition/ reconstruction of previous storefronts including an all-new worship hall utilizing natural light sources with stained glass windows overlooking I-35W just east of downtown Wichita Falls proper while retaining much character & history unique unto that location & others associated therein through incorporation into new multi-tenant building resulting both physically (& emotionally) from redevelopment process itself - largest single commercial development ever initiated or finished within City limits anywhere remotely resembling “stately” Downtown Wichita Falls proper - becoming simply etching away at wall directly opposite Parking Garage facility providing primary access thereto on opposite side street frontage during morning hours only

Bonham, Texas is a small town located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The population of Bonham was 10,644 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Hudspeth County. The first known inhabitants of what is now Bonham were Native American people who lived on the banks of the Trinity River before they were displaced by European colonists in 1836. The townsite was founded by General James Hogg and his company of cavalry during the Texas Revolution, and it was named after him. Bonham grew quickly due to its strategic location on high ground near wagon roads that connected Fort Worth with Austin and Mexico City. By 1865, it had a population of over 15,000 people. During World War II, Bonham served as an airbases for RAF Bomber Command and Ninth Air Force; it also housed U.S Army Navy Reserve units from 1942 to 1945. After the war, Bonham began to decline as a commercial center due to its remote location and limited access to education and transportation; however, it has regained some popularity in recent years due to its unique history and architecture. One of the most significant events in Bonham’s history occurred when Elvis Presley came through town on his way from Memphis to Greenville for an appearance at Sam Phillips’ Sun Records factory where he recorded his first album. Many people in town helped get ready for Presley’s visit by setting up shop behind local restaurants or filling up water jugs with ice so they could wait outside while Presley performed songs such as “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I Can See You In My Dreams (But I Can't Touch You).” In 2007, G nationally touring country artist George Jones visited Bonham during his final concert tour stop before retiring from touring after more than fifty years in music industry activity. During their performance at bonHAM Stadium on December 3rd2007 Jones dedicated part of his set towards honoring both veteran citizens who have fought for our country including those stationed here at home during WWII along with current military members/veterans present including former Marine Corporal Nathan Krieger
In 1836, Jedediah Bonham and his brother Sam founded the town of Bonham on the Brazos River in what is now central Texas. The brothers were land speculators, and soon began to sell parcels of their newly acquired land to settlers. By 1840, the town had grown to around 1,000 residents. In 1851, Jedediah's grandson, James A. Bonham III, became the first white man to win a seat in the Texas House of Representatives. In 1861, he was elected as a Confederate general in the American Civil War and later served as governor of Texas.
