Bonham, Texas is a small town located in the far southeast corner of Texas. It is bordered by Abilene to the east and north, Lubbock to the south and west, and Midland to the northwest. The population of Bonham was 3,711 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1881 when James Bonham Sr., an advertising agent for Dodge Brothers sent his son James Jr. to survey land in what is now Bonham County. The brothers purchased 600 acres (2 km²) from David Hogg, a rancher who had sold them land in 1875 for $1 per acre (4 ha). In 1886, John Tuggle bought 40 acres (16 ha) from James Bonham Sr. His wife Anna Tuggle donated another 20 acres (8 ha). In 1924-1925, James Pogue Bonham Jr., grandson of John Pogue Bonham Sr., donated 100 acres (40 ha). In 1932-1933, Harry Fenton left his job as general manager of Dallas Oil Fields Corporation to become president of Texaco Refineries Incorporated. He persuaded company directors to donate land adjacent to their production site on Clear Fork Creek so that they could build a new refinery plant without having to move their operations intoDallas or Houston. That year also saw the opening of First Christian Church in nearby Midland and other civic improvements such as the construction of a fire truck and school house. The town’s first post office was opened in 1883 by Captain Wm Burchfield with mail derived from Midland. By 1905 it had grown enough that mail was mailed from three different points within the community: Main Street off Ulysses S Grant Boulevard on one side; Elm Street on another side between Second Avenue and White Sands Drive; and Cemetery Road on its eastern edge which connected with Ulysses S Grant Boulevard at its southern end near Haskell Schoolhouse before continuing northeast along White Sands Drive past Haskell Schoolhouse until reaching Ulysses S Grant Boulevard again at its western end nearbonnet High School before turning northeast again up Clear Fork Creek toward downtown bonnet where it terminated at Third Street opposite Fort Worth State Bank which served as Post Office Department until 1978 when it became part of TexacoTexaco Station #1 inside First Christian Church complex after that company's merge with ExxonMobilTexaco Station #2 outside First Christian Church complex . Bingham has always been an agricultural center due largely to its location between two major oil fields – those around Lubbock and Wichita Falls – bothproducing large quantities of crude oil over time which has helped drive important economic growth here throughout much of its history while contributing importantly too rural communities through shared access roads and markets linking these areas
