Bonham is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The Bonham Independent School District serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The city was founded on December 25, 1893 by John Pemberton and James Hartsfield as a small community named after British general and explorer Sir John Bonham. On November 30, 1907, the town of Bonham became part of the new Hudspeth County when it was created from parts of Trinity and Kendall Counties. The area that would become Bonham was first settled by families who were farmers and ranchers in the early 1800s. A post office called "Bonham" was established in 1892, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1914. In 1907, the towns of Trinity and Kendall were merged to form Hudspeth County, and Bonham became part of that new county. The population of Bonham grew rapidly during World War I due to military recruitment drives organized by local businesses. Bonham is a town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,431 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Medina County. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Bonham has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The first settlers in what would become Medina County were farmers who arrived from eastern Maryland in 1836. They built their homes near present-day Bonham and started trading with Indians and other settlers for goods they brought back with them from their trips across the Ohio River. In 1839, John Capps purchased land east of Medina from the Saginaw tribe of Indians for $1 per acre (0.50¢ per foot). This land became known as Capps Land and later became part of Medina County when it was organized in 1846. In 1861, John Wills bought 640 acres (240 hectares) east of present-day Bonham and began developing it into a town named after him, Wills Town. The first store opened in 1865 and by 1870 there were 12 businesses in town including two churches and three schools. By 1880 there were more than 150 people living in Wills Town and by 1890 it had grown to 1,500 residents. A post office was established at Wills Town on October 20, 1889; it served until November 15th, 1907 when it was moved to present day Medinaville because of annexation by that communityirthighlighted by then Ulysses S Grant during his presidential campaign against James Kossuth . Bryan Moulton also settled hereabouts about 1840s or 1850s although he does not mention any such place called “Bonham” anywhere else within his published life but only makes passing references to this locality Cedar Creek which may have been situated some miles west [possibly near Present day Waxahachie], Texas.. Erected still stands today outside old downtown just off FM 521 south side near intersection with Elm Street about midway between Cedar Creek Road north side & US 281 south side approximately 8 miles west [of Waxahachie] on property now belonging to Baylor University located several miles southeast corner of IH 10 & SH 171 just past TX line on small ridge running parallel w/SH 171 approx 24 miles due northw/Texan border
