Bonham is a town in Wood County, Texas, United States. The population was 795 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls-Fulshear Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Bonham was George Hargrave in 1872. On September 14, 1898, Buffalo Bill Cody and his band of cowboys visited the area and made an impression on local residents who followed them back to their rancho for dinner that night. This event led to the construction of a small school in nearby Denton by one of Cody's followers in 1902. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt visited the town and gave a speech before he left for Pecos Field where he won the first game ever played between two American teams at Cowboys Stadium. In 1916, Clyde Tomblin founded Tomblin Oil & Refining Company with $10 thousand from his father-in-law Sam Houston Bidwell and took over production from Rancho Verde Refinery which had been run by John Day Cooley and J.P. Morgan Jr.. The company became one of America's leading oil companies with its original refinery located on Main Street near present day US 90 south of townsite (it moved to Tulsa after World War II). By 1924 it had 2 plants producing 10 million barrels per day (mbpd) including products exported to Europe under various brands such as Shell and BP; it owned or leased more than 100 rigs offshore across four seas; its employees numbered over 1,500 men including women workers; it produced 30% all gasoline sales in Texas; it generated more than $1 billion worth of economic activity during its heyday In 1951 when Interstate 40 was built through Wood County bypassing Bonham Avenue just outside town limits most people simply turned off I-40 onto Prairie View Road which ran parallel to US 90 until about milepost 148 when I-40 split off towards Wichita Falls - this caused serious traffic congestion along Prairie View Rd.; so Clyde Tomblin decided to build another highway from Fort Worth eastward through Bonham into Wichita Falls - this freeway became I-30 corridor today known as "Bonham Boulevard". A post office called Bonham was established in 1901 but discontinued operations due to lack of customers in 1906. A store opened up soon afterwards at 5th & Birch which served as the parish center for many years until 1978 when St Joseph’s Catholic Church replaced it as the community’s only building/landmark.(the prior church burned down) In 1912 “The Kernel” newspaper started publication weekly out of an old grocery store on Cedar Creek Rd., later renamed “The Daily Press” after purchasing adjoining land adjacent to First Baptist Church (now Methodist). After several name changes The Daily Press still prints papers Monday thru Friday 9am-3pm & Saturday 9am-noon except holidays

Bonham, Texas is located in the Rio Grande Valley near El Paso, Texas. The community was founded by pioneers on December 10, 1879. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location and trade ties with Mexico. In 1907, Bonham became a town and was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1912. The population of Bonham peaked at over 100,000 in the early 1960s but has decreased since then.Today, Bonham has a population of about 20 people and is home to a small shopping center and several apartments.The history of Bonham goes back to the days when Mexican settlers arrived in what is now Texans' Red River Valley. These people were keen on making their new land permanent and started building homes in what is now downtown Bonham in 1879. They named their community after General James Hogg who had fought for Mexican independence from Spain at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1868.Hogg's group of Texans also established trading posts along the river which attracted Mexicans looking for goods and food they couldn't find inland. This led to more cameos between these groups and eventually English-speaking settlers began arriving in droves too. By 1907, BonHAM had reached its current size with around 100 residents living there full time."
Bonham is located in the Maverick County, Texas, area. The community was established on November 3, 1887 by John A. Bonham and his brother-in-law, James E. Green. It was named for General Andrew Jackson Bonham who had fought in the Mexican-American War and served as a colonel in the United States Army during the Civil War.
