During World War II, Boerne played an important role as a military airfield helping develop Japan's wartime weapons program including airfields used for bombing raids against Japanese cities such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After World War II, Boerne experienced rapid growth with development taking place in both retail and professional sectors until the mid-19th century when ranching became predominant in boeernes economy
