In 1915, when US$1 million worth of Confederate memorabilia was auctioned off at a Houston sale, local citizens used their money to buy land near what is now downtown Boerne for use as agricultural fields. Today this area remains one of the most important economic sectors for the city because it provides access to markets throughout Central Texas. In spite of its recent growth, there have been several challenges faced by Boerne over the years including lack of affordable housing; crime rates; traffic congestion; inadequate infrastructure; and limited resources such as water availability or public transportation options

Boerne, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and was founded on October 20, 1836 by colonists from Germania and Alsace-Lorraine. The city's name comes from the Dutch word "Boeirne" meaning "borderland." The town has been a major center for cotton production ever since it was settled and today is known as a bedroom community for Houston. The first post office in Boerne opened on November 1, 1835. The city was named after Major General Cornelius Van “Nieuwpoort” van Beurden, who served as military governor of the Republic of Texas during its early days. He also donated land to the city for development. The City Council chose the name "Boerne" on October 20, 1836, due to its location at the border between Mexican territory and Anglo-American settlement in what would become Texas. At that time, many Texans thought that Mexico had taken away their land while they remained living under Spanish rule in California; this belief led to some hostilities when Americans arrived in what would be called Texas in late 1835 looking for new opportunities after annexation by Mexico following Santa Anna's successful coup d'état that ended Mexican rule in California. A post office opened at Boerne on December 15, 1837; it served until January 3, 1840 when it changed its name to Galveston because of an offer from General Antonio López de la Fuente to lease land near San Antonio for a new post office building. In 1840 Galveston became an important seaport with shipments arriving from Havana and other parts of Latin America via wayfinding missioned boats operated by Captain David Dixon along the Ship Channel (now Baytown) between Houston and Galveston Bayou (now portions of Myers Beach & Clearwater). This service continued until 1865 when steamship services began operating out of Galveston Ferry Terminal which became one of largest open-air commercial ports in North America When Galveston fell victim to Hurricane Ike on September 25th 2008 she damaged or destroyed over $20 million worth of infrastructure including over 100 bridges across bayous throughout downtown/the Outer Harbor area - including several that still remain standing today!
