They started a small community called Cedar Creek which still exists today. In 1851, two men named Tom and Harry met in Cedar Creek and began trading goods with other Indian tribes in nearby Mexico. They name their new town Tomball after one of their contacts from Mexico. After about a year, they realized that there wasn't enough room for all of them in Tomball so they moved again and founded Cedar City which still exists today. In 1857, another man named James White came to live in Tomball and started a grocery store. He also built some homes on Clear Lake which are still standing today. This town quickly grew into an important center for trade within the region and it remains an important cultural heritage site today.
