The Big Spring Pistol Company was founded in 1904 by E.W. Scudder and W.C. Brown and began manufacturing pistols at their factory on the east side of town just north of the present day Wal-Mart Supercenter. The company continued to produce pistols until World War II, when it became a subsidiary of Colt Firearms Corporation. After the war, Big Spring Pistol Company operated as a sole proprietorship until 1951, when it merged with other local companies to form Colt American Corporation (CALM).
Big Spring, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Hidalgo County. The population was 30,811 at the 2010 census. Big Spring began as a small log settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1836, within present-day Hidalgo County.
