Benbrook is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. In 1849, pioneer John Benbrook settled on what would become Benbrook. He named it after his father-in-law and fellow settler Jesse Barnes. In 1872, he sold his land to the town of Round Rock and incorporated as a village. The first post office opened in Benbrook on December 12, 1902. The name was changed to Benbrook in 1907 when the community annexed the neighboring village of McKeeville. As early as 1892 there were rumors that oil would be found in Brownwood County; however no wells were drilled until 1906 when Horace Greeley leased land east of Benbrook for an oil well. With this discovery came increased development aroundBenbrook with stores, restaurants and other businesses opening up along Central Avenue which became known as "The Street of Oil". In 1917 local resident Harry Meeks established a flour mill which continued operation until 1984. In 1922 a cotton gin was built and operated by James Fenton from 1922 to 1951; it was later acquired by Gorman Cotton Mills Inc., now owned by Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM). There are several churches located in or near Benbrook including First Baptist Church (founded 1888), Methodist Episcopal Church (1896), Presbyterian Church (1901) and Churches United Methodist (founded 1912). A large shopping center called "Towne Center" opened in 1996 adjacent to First Baptist Church across from Central Avenue

Benbrook is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,926 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benbrook was founded in 1887 by cattle ranchers and land speculators named A.C. Benbrook and Wm. H. Brownell Jr.. The first post office opened in 1888, and the town Namesake, built adjacent to the present-day courthouse on Larkins Road, served until 1907 when it became an annex of neighboring Houston. In1988, Benbrook annexed parts of Tomball which later became Clear Lake City; all three municipalities are now part ofHouston proper. The name 'Benbrook' originated with cattle rancher A.C Benbrook who named his ranch after his birthplace (Birmingham) in England but decided that he wanted a place where people could call him home too so he set up shop near what is now Tomball and began advertising the community as 'Benbrook'. When Wm H Brownell Jr., son of early settler William H Brownell acquired some additional Rancho San Antonio land east of Larkins Road (now called Orchard), he decided to christen his new community 'Benbrook' for both himself and his father-in-law Wm Othmar Bauerlein from Vienna Austria considered one of Texans top experts on real estate matters at that time! This village grew rapidly around its original two schools (one brick schoolhouse/pupil room & one frame school Annex) on 10 acres SSW corner SW First street between Larkins Rd & Westheimer Rd before annexation by Houston in 1907 It should be noted that although annexation occurred withinHouston proper boundaries (10 miles SSE of downtown), much development took place outside those boundaries because this area had been agriculturally rich for centuries prior to incorporation intoHouston through various means including ranching,- oil exploration,- mail service - even having its own jail back then! The townsite straddling old US 281/US 290 had already been developed by early 1800s settlers when they formed bluffs overlooking Buffalo Bayou & started building their homes atop these bluff sites providing them with commanding views over their surroundings while lifestyle choices like prohibition made living close toacasualties more difficult
