Benbrook is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Benbrook comes from the Choctaw word ben-bark meaning "a tough wood." At one time, Benbrook was home to over 100 households and 2 churches. Today, only a few families live in the small town and most residents are employed within Webb County or outside of it. The first settler in what is now Benbrook was Isaac Higginbotham who arrived on November 20, 1836. He named his land Benbrook after himself and his friends John Higginbotham and George Bowen came with him from Tennessee on October 12th that year. The original townsite consisted of just two dwellings - an old millinery shop on present day US Highway 183 and a couple of tannery buildings east of present day FM 3956. In 1851 Benjamin Fenton built a log cabin on Currier Creek which became known as Fenton's Station wagon road stop for travelers coming southward through Webb County from Austin to San Antonio via IH 35W (now Loop 610).
