In 1917, when World War I began(), Benjamin Brook became one of America's primary military supply depots for troops fighting abroad. Additionally, during World War II (),Benbrook played an important role as an airbase for American forces engaged in Operation Overlord (). Benbrook was founded on the Brazos River by John Benbrook in 1847. The town grew quickly, and in 1865 it became the seat of District 6 of the Texas State Legislature. In 1883, Benbrook became a city.
