In 1984, BOG merged with Gulf Resources Corporation to form Gulf Resources-Boggy Petroleum Corporation (GRCP). GRCP continued developing oilfields throughout Texas and Oklahoma; production peaked at 3 million barrels per day in 1990. In 2003, GRCP merged with ConocoPhillips to become ConocoPhillips–Gulf Resources Incorporated (COPI). COPI was renamed Energy EastCorp LLC in 2006;Energy East Corp.'s core businesses are exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas reserves worldwide. Belton is a small town in south-central Texas, United States. The population was 2,492 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land–Bexar county area. Belton began as a Methodist church and school in 1876. It became an important center for cotton farming during the 1930s and 1940s, when it had several mills and a large cotton gin. In 1954, Belton established its own government with a mayor, a city council, and a school board. The town annexed neighboring towns in 1959 to form what is now Belton annexation zone. Belton has experienced many changes over its history: from agricultural to industrial to post-industrial due to its location withinHouston County; from Republican rule in the 1920s until Democratic rule after World War II; to recent years of growth thanks to advancements in transportation and communication technology. The town's first mill was built by John Hernández around 1875 on what is now Buffalo Bayou Boulevard just northeast of downtown Belton. By 1880, there were five textile mills operating in Belton: three operated by American Harbinger Company (AHC), one by Jute Mill Corporation (JMC), one by Gulf & Western Cannery Company (GWC), and one by Cotton Belt Textile Corporation (CBT). AHC was acquired by Hubbard Cotton Mills Incorporated (HHMI) in 1916; JMC was purchased by Texaco Oil Refining Company plc., GTE Telecommunications Holding Co., Lifestyles Communities Inc., Citizens Broadcasting System et al., all members of Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal empire during that period; GTE Telecom Holdings Plc.; Lifestyles Communities Inc.; Citizens Broadcasting System et al.; all were merged into Time Warner Cable Companies effective April 1st 1997 as part of their $45 billion acquisition of Comcast Corp.. BTX Interconnection LLC provides service within the annexation zone extending beyond Houston County limits along US 90 Business Loop 910 east from I-610 north to FM 1960 west then south along I-610 eastbound passing through MidtownHouston before rejoining US 90 Business Loop 910 west from I-610 north near Beltway 8 before terminating at 610 south near Hobby Airport Blvd.. Belton initially grew primarily due to cotton production although other industries also developed such as heavy manufacturing throughout the late 1800s including automobiles beginning around 1902 when General Electric'sITT Manufacturing plants started making radios for Ford Motor Company which led directly to Cadillac manufacture beginning around 1913 whereupon Chevrolet began making cars starting 1917 with their dealership located on Main Street just northwest of current day Krieger Museum active until 2002 when they relocated across State Rd 718 east off Loop 610 South towards Montrose Center active today pending future redevelopment
Belton, Texas was founded in 1872 by John White and James Belton. The town was originally named thesite of a new cotton gin. In 1870, the town's first post office was established. The name of the town was changed to Belton in honor of General Robert E. Lee on July 4, 1872. The original courthouse and jail were built in 1875-77; they were replaced by a new building in 1909. The population of Belton increased from 10 residents in 1880 to 30 residents in 1910. By 1920, it had reached 100 residents and remained that size until 1940 when it shrunk to 60 residents due to World War II casualties and other factors.
