The first school in Belton was built on a farmstead near the present day intersection of I-35W and FM 571 (now US 183). In 1879, James Belton donated land to build a school which would serve the community for seven years. On December 12th, 1881, Mrs. Carrington donated money toward the construction of a new school which would be named after her late husband Jimmie Belle Carrington III as well as future brothers George and Bennie Belle Carrington Sr.. Classes began on January 4th, 1882 with eighty-two students attending classes that year under the guidance of Mrs. Carrington’s son Benny Belle Carrington Jr., who also served as first principal until he retired in 1915 . A new two story building was erected on what is now downtown Belton with full basement development which became home to both public schools as well as Mr & Mrs.Belle’s restaurant over forty years beginning with its opening on October 3rd 1945 until it closed on March 15th 2014 due to lack of customers……….Downtown BelTON today still features many structures from those early days including original classroom buildings across from current State Highway 183A office complex currently used by TX Baptists Church…..In 1916 during World War I while residents were mobilizing for war efforts they had an air raid warning sent through their radios telling them to leave their homes because there would be an air raid next night….. Shortly before midnight on November 25th 1917 local residents heard loud explosions outside their homes followed shortly thereafter by firework shows within minutes……………On February 10th 1918 citizens located several German soldiers stationed aroundtown hidden among piles of debris following a reconnaissance mission that failed…… Present day location…………….In 1929 during prohibition – oneitizens decided to open up what is now known as “The Gulch” An all natural gas station/restaurant opened directly behind Whatcom High School where people could purchase gasoline products such as kerosene and lard from suppliers along Railroad Avenue…………….From 1951 until 1987 The Hawkins family operated an ice cream parlor at 636 E Main Street called “The scoop”……………In 1984 Gail Hindman converted her house into an inn/motel called THE BELTON BEACH HOTEL which remained open until it closed operations in 2006…………………………Today only 2 blocks north down Railroad Ave off I-35W are remaining old post offices originally built inside wood frame buildings that housed various storerooms or desks for mail carriers prior to Interstate 35 entering town……………………This area has been renamed “Old Town Square”

Belton, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The population was 685 at the 2010 census. It is part of the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission County, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Belton began as an adobe village on the banks of the Balcones River in 1851. The community was named for General John Belton, who served as a colonel in Mexico's Army during the American Civil War and later became president of Texas. After Belton's death in 1865, his wife, Laverne (née Beard), founded a school and post office here. In 1870, local businessmen formed a company to build a canal through what is now downtown Belton. The canal project failed but led to growth at Belton with new businesses being established such as flour mills and barns. In 1904, Belton experienced its first tornado when a severe storm destroyed several homes and damaged other structures near Railroad Avenue and Main Street. In 1916, construction began on what would become one of Tamaulipas' most famous landmarks – the then new San Isidro cattle station which later became known as "The Rancho del Apache." The rancho was acquired by Don Carlos Escobar Ramirez from his father-in-law Pascual Dominguez in 1932 and used it for breeding purposes until it was sold to ranchers including Harry Wertheimer in 1949. Wertheimer donated land for education at San Isidro School which opened its doors in 1957; today San Isidro Elementary School continues to serve this purpose along with another elementary school built on nearby property that replaced an earlier wooden building in 1969). In 1964–1965, during Lyndon Johnson's presidency,belts road were widened within just four years of their completion making access easier for drivers commuting into El Paso across IH 35W from Brownsville/McAllen through downtown El Paso while bypassingBeltsville where much development had taken place since Route 66 had crossed over into Tamaulipas back east
