They named their new village Belton after General Sam Houston’s battle at San Jacinto. The town quickly became a center for cattle and holster manufacturing and today it still remains one of the leading leather-making towns in America. The Holstermakers’ Association of America was founded in Belton in 1907. Today, Belton is home to an array of holster manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Colt, Springfield Armory, Glock and Ruger. These companies have all contributed to the development of American holsters as a genre. Belton holster history can be traced back to 1892, when the first holster was created in the town. At that time, Belton was a small town located in West Texas and holster invention may have been spurred by the need for protection from robbers or outlaws. By 1903, Belton had two holsters manufacturing businesses, one of which was run by W. A. "Doc" Hardesty. In 1924, Hardesty partnered with Elisha Peake to form Peake-Hardesty Holsters Company. The company's products were initially designed for law enforcement officers and military personnel but soon became popular among civilians as well. In 1935, Hardesty died and his son John took over the company. John continued to produce high quality holsters until his death in 1984. Today, Belton holster production is still carried out by father and son team – with John's grandson currently running the business.
Belton, Texas is a small town located in the state of Texas. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler-Montgomery County region. Belton is just outside of Tyler and it has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). Belton was founded in 1867 by Josiah Belting and his wife Sarah. They opened a general store and served as the nucleus for what would become Belton Township. The first post office was established in 1869. In 1870, John Henton became the first mayor of Belton. He represented Tyler County in the Texas House of Representatives from 1871 to 1875 and from 1889 to 1893. In 1895, oil rigs were being drilled near Belton on Lake Lanier and people started to move into the area to take advantage of the new industry. By 1902, there were over 100 businesses operating in Belton with a population of 3,000 people. The town experienced its heyday during World War I when it became an important military base used by United States forces stationed in Europe; however, after World War I ended,Belton slowly began to decline until it lost its status as an important center after 1950 when Interstate 10 was constructed through central Tyler County%. However, since 2000 have seen sporadic growth with some businesses relocating back into downtown while others have moved outwards towards newer areas such as Monterey Park or Falls Church Virginia due to their proximity to Interstate 10/Texas A&M University/ Dallas Cowboys stadium etc.. There are plans currently being made for development around Third Street which will create more acreage for housing within walking distance of each other creating what could be called "The Village".

Belton founded an oil refinery in what is nowBelton and became one of the largest producers of kerosene in the United States. He also donated land to help start Baylor University. In 1922, he sold his share ofthe refinery to Texaco for $2 million dollars ($). Belton has been home to several high school football teams since its incorporation as a town: two varsity Division II schools (1927-29; 1951), three Junior College Football programs (1940-42), one professional football team (Houston Oilers) from 1957-1975 and finally the current Belton High School Jaguars (9th grade) which play their inaugural season in 2018 after being classified as a Class 6A school by Lone Star League officials In 1962, when Highway 5 crossed through town on its way to Interstate 10 eastbound between Austin and Houston, Businessmen A&M Logistics laid down tracks along that route under an agreement with then Mayor Harry Bailey When I-10 opened up I saw Businessmen A&M Logistics truckloads of sandbags all over because they didn't have any other place to put them so they just set up shop right there on Main Street It's funny because now days we see them all over again every time there's some kind of weather event or something like that
