Belton, Texas is a small town located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. It was founded in 1881 by John H. Belton and his wife, Emma Jane. The town acquired its present name from the Battle of Belmont (1811), which took place near here. The battle was fought between Mexican forces and American volunteers, and as a result, General Antonio López de Santa Anna was captured and held prisoner for several weeks before being released. In 1881, John H. Belton donated land to create the townsite that now includes parts of Dallas and Fort Worth. Today, Belton is a thriving community with businesses such as pharmaceuticals, auto dealerships, home builders/repairmen, and more. Belton has experienced many changes over the years – both positive (such as becoming one of the most prosperous towns in Texas) and negative (such as experiencing several devastating fires). At this time, much of Europe was at war with Russia; however, America remained neutral due to treaties made between America and Great Britain. As a result, many people from across America traveled to see what was happening on Earth’s largest battlefields. During World War I, many Germans were brought into America through Ellis Island because they were unable to travel outside Germany due to restrictions placed on them by their government. This event is considered to be one of Belton’s proudest moments because it showed how tolerant America had become since its inception as an independent country! After years of steady growth for their small town post office which processed mail only four times per month before automation arrived, they went out of business due to high postage rates charged by competing mailing companies during the early 21st century internet age!
