Belton, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,644 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County and home to the Belton Independent School District. Belton was founded in 1881 by members of the Brushy Creek Methodist Episcopal Church who were displaced by a railroad construction project. The community saw its first crop planting in 1886 and soon developed into a agricultural center with orchards, vineyards, cattle grazing areas, and a flour mill. In 1935 the then-small town had 1,585 residents; however, it lost its place as county seat when Midland took over from Williamson County in that year. The community has experienced some growth since then: In 2000 it had 3,509 residents; in 2010 it had 4,644 residents. Most of this recent increase can be attributed to annexation by Midland which led to an increase in job opportunities for people within the local area. Additionally new housing developments have been built near Belton including One Belt Parkway West and Old Hickory Road which have drawn many commuters to work in nearby Midland Cities such as Midland and Odessa.

Belton, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The town was founded on the old San Antonio-New Braunfels Road in 1879 by Colonel John Belton. The population of Belton was only around 100 people when it was first established. However, over time the town grew and became a center for farming and ranching in Hudspeth County. In 1936, the Belton School District was created and the town began to grow again with new schools being built as well as more businesses.Throughout its history, Belton has been a major player in Hudspeth County politics. The town has had many mayors and council members over the years including Dr. Edwin Hinton who served from 1955 until his death in 1982, Mrs. Mildred "Maggie" Baker who served from 1966 until her death in 2003, Mr. Don Kirchhoff who served from 2000 until he resigned effective November 1st of that year due to health reasons, Mayor Marty Mason who served from 2006 through 2015, Mayor Frank Perez who served from 2017 until he resigned effective January 1st of that year due to health reasons and lastly Mayor Steve Ladd who currently serves as mayor since January 1st of this year
