Belton is a small town in the Texas Panhandle, located on U.S. Route 191 and Interstate 20. The population was 5,572 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. Belton was founded in 1887 by John Belton and his brother Jameson as a cattle ranch. In 1907, it became a town when it incorporated as a result of an act of the Texas Legislature. The original courthouse, built in 1909, still stands today and is used as a museum for local history and culture. Belton has two high schools - Belton High School (which opened in 1959) and Amarillo Central High School (opened in 1966). There are also three elementary schools - Belton Elementary School (opened in 1954), Keystone Elementary School (opened in 1957), and Wheeler Elementary School (opened in 1958). A fourth elementary school - Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools - will be built on land donated by the community to that effect during the 2020-2021 school year. The Town Council has five members who are elected at-large with no term limit; Two members are elected annually to serve one year with no possibility for re-election; One member represents all of District 1 which includes portions of both BelTON & Amarillo; District 2 includes portions of both BelTON & Amarillo but does not have any City Limits; District 3 contains parts of both BelTON & Amarillo but does not have any City Limits As per Texas Statutes Section 7101(a)(3) "All Taxable Property within Five Miles [of] Any Municipal Limit Except That Which Is Reserved For Municipal Parks" district boundaries were redrawn effective January 1st 2021 thru December 31st 2022 so please review if you need assistance with this issue

Belton is a small town in northeastern Texas, located on the eastern border of the Unincorporated County of Belton. The population was 707 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Belton was founded by pioneers in 1867 as a cattle and horse ranching community on Highway 36 North, about east of present-day Belton. In 1903, it became a municipality and post office under the name Belton. The first mayor was Wm. Halsey Whitehall. The current mayor is Lee Merrick. Belton has two ZIP codes: 75010 and 75021. It takes its name from Colonel John A Sibley, who surveyed land for what would become Emory & Houston Railroad in 1866 and named it after his own home town of Bolton, England (now Bolton UK). The townsite lay within what are now Dallas/Fort Worth School District #1 boundaries when it was platted; however, annexation by DFW led to incorporation as an independent city in 1907 with a population of 2,500 people due to its location on railroad tracks adjacent to Fort Worth's business district; this status changed again when Fort Worth annexed Arlington Heights into their city limits in 1916 due to lack of space within Arlington Heights' borders for another school district also seeking annexation._ It achieved full cityhood status with 3,000 citizens whenindependence ended following World War II._ As an annexe to DFW once again during more recent times there have been some changes including re-establishment as a separate municipality which had 6 acres (2 hectares) annexed back into DFW boundary late last year_In spite having all these changes one thing has remained constants throughout much of history - that is - Name! And that is - That Name is BELTON!
Belton is a city in and the seat of Belton County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1876 by settler John Ellison and named for his home town of Belleville, Ontario. Belton is located at (28.754609, -101.560569). It occupies most of a valley between the San Antonio River to the east and the hills to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, Belton has a total area of , all land. Belton was founded on December 12th, 1876 by John Ellison with assistance from Jens Hansen and others after they heard about an incoming wagon train that had been stopped near Lubbock on November 7th. They began building homes around what would become their town square which is now Main Street. The first post office opened in July 1877 under license from Austin & Co., merchants who operated Stationer's Store on Palace Street in Lubbock until that store burned down in 1865 while being used as a jail cell for Confederate prisoners of war during the American Civil War. The original name for Belton was Belleville but it was changed because many people thought it sounded like Boston where much settlement had taken place including some 800 families from Belleville who came overland through Canada en route to Texas when Texas became an Anglo-American state following its independence from Mexico in1836 After some debate it was decided that since there were no other places called Belleville within 10 miles (16 km) of where we lived we should just go with our original name which we did for about 25 years or so until someone suggested changing it back to Belton after seeing how popular this name actually became among our citizens
