In 1912, Dutton passed away and his son Julius took over the business. Julius began manufacturing firearms t-shirts as well - selling them through his own store or at gun shows. In the early 1920s, when firearms began becoming popular in America during the Great Depression era (1920-1929), Belton became an important center for firearm production due to its proximity to Lone Star Ammunition Plant and its stockpile of arms materiel. The plant produced Winchester Repeating Arms Company revolvers (and later Remington Model 870 rifles) as well as many other types of firearms including pistols. In addition to supplying firearms retailers throughout America with high-quality ammo, Lone Star Ammunition also made it available for wholesale purchase by law enforcement agencies within Texas and adjacent states who needed rounds capable of defeating armor plating on automobiles and other vehicles. In 1922, Julius Dutton died suddenly at the age of 38 after a long career in business that included 10 years as president of Belton Gunsmith Shop Incorporated; 4 years as treasurer of First National Bank; 3 years as vice president of the Texas Rifle Association; 2 years as mayor of Belton; 1 year as member of the city council; 11 months service with Air Force Reserve Unit No 2645 stationed at Refineries--Langley Field near Edmonton AB Canada; 10 months service with Numbered Air Force Squadron No 353 stationed at Fort Worth Municipal Airport TX USA.....Elisha Dutton was born in 1872 in Plymouth Meeting PA US he died on October 15th 1946Belton TX

It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Combined Statistical Area. Belton was founded on November 15, 1883 by John W. Belton and his family from Illinois. The original location of the town was near present day Arlington Heights and Rice Roads. In 1902, Belton added an amusement park to its offerings which became well known throughout the Houston metropolitan area for its rides and games. In 1955, the city of Belton annexed portions of rural McLennan County to form a new municipality which it still uses as its mailing address today: "BelTON". The annexation caused some uprisings in neighboring towns but they were quickly quashed by local officials including Mayor Bob Nichols who stated that annexation would increase property values and make townspeople more tax payers; however this never happened since there has been no real growth or development in either community since then (although there have been occasional updates to both). The current mayor of Belton is Steve Flowers with City Council members Tom Dickey (5th Ward), Donnie Hardin (2nd Ward), Jeff Welch (3rd Ward) and Denise Bethea (1st Ward).

The post office at Belton opened in 1918 and continued to serve until it closed in 1935. Belton experienced significant growth during World War II as a base for American military operations against Imperial Japanese forces. A munitions plant operated here from 1942 to 1945; afterward, Belton's economy centered around agriculture until the late 20th century when manufacturing became more common. Today, Belton has several restaurants, two churches (one Baptist), two schools (grades kindergarten through 12th grade), a library, and one daycare center.
