Belton is a town in Wharton County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,282 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. BB guns were popular among farmers in North Texas during the early 1900s because they could be easily concealed and fired without being seen. BB guns became more common after World War I when ammunition became available that could kill larger animals with ease. The first bb gun factory in Belton was built by J.P. Morgan in 1914. By 1928 there were over 100 BB guns factories across the US manufacturing BB guns for both civilian and military purposes. During World War II, many Belton businesses produced munitions such as cannons, tanks, and machineguns to help win the war against Japan.

Belton was founded on December 6, 1875 by John Belton and his wife Rebecca Clements. When the railroad arrived in 1876, it built a station here. The town grew slowly until 1907 when it had a population of 350 people. In 1915 the town's first school opened and in 1917 its first post office opened. In 1922 Belton's first store opened and in 1924 its first bank branch opened. The population increased rapidly from 1945 until 1960 when it reached 1,500 people. In 1984 Belton had its only tornado outbreak which left 21 structures damaged or destroyed including two churches and one school building. The growth of technology has brought new businesses to town such as Cisco Systems (now Intel) which moved to Belton from Austin in 1975 and made its headquarters here before moving again to Dallas in 1999; Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) which established an operations center here in 1984; HP Laboratories where they manufactured Hewlett-Packard products for many years before selling them off to Dell; Abbott Laboratories who bought their upstream assets from Schering-Plough Corporation; Southern Methodist University (SMU)--a research university--which moved into new buildings adjacent to the old Baylor Hospital campus here after purchasing land from Baylor College of Medicine; contributions by several large Texan companies including Enron Capital Management LP., TX Instruments Incorporated (TI), West Texas Industries Incorporated (WTI), Lubbock Oil Company LLC., Marathon Petroleum Corporation ('Marathon'), Koch Industries plc., among others have helped make Belton one ofTexans' most vibrant cities over the past few decades - witness Walgreens Boots Alliance's decision to open a second location here in 2013!

In 1840, a post office was established at Belton and remained open until it closed in 1860. The first school opened in 1842 and continued to serve the community until it merged with nearby Tyler on January 1, 1906. Belton experienced significant growth during the early years of its existence as a town. A railroad depot was constructed here in 1845 and served as an important transportation hub for local farmers and miners looking for access to resources such as coal and silver ore. The town also saw development of homes, schools, churches, businesses, grocery stores, and more during this time period. During World War II (1939-1945), many residents of BelTON volunteered their services to support their country through various military engagements including service on Iwo Jima Island where they were subjected to terrible conditions which led to several fatalities among them; however no casualties occurred within the city limits of BelTON itself during that time frame either! Today, much like when it originally began serving its citizens day-to-day activities are limited due to only having two primary businesses - one pertaining to retail sales while another offers professional services - both currently managed by individuals who have been employed here since before 2009! Despite this recent decline some aspects remain unchanged such as several parks dotting downtown area providing opportunities for children/ adults alike to enjoy nature while keeping things lively late into evening; excellent news if you're looking for something productive from your free time!

The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had over 100 residents. In 1872, the city of Austin was founded nearby and Belton quickly lost its importance as a trading center. However, Belton continued to grow and by 1900 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1912, the city of Austin merged with neighboring Dallas to form the new Texas capital, Austin. However, due to financial problems at the city hall, Belton continued to exist as an independent municipality until 1939 when it merged with Dallas too.
