Pemberton and his family started a California style farming operation which continued until 1906 when he sold his holdings to JB Sargent who then passed it down through his children until it came into the hands of JP Sargent's son John Hinton Sargent Jr., who ran it as an agricultural concern until 1985 when it became part of TP&S Agribusiness Incorporated bearing its present name. The first post office in Bellaire was established on October 9, 1883; under this name, mail went to Midland and Houston before being delivered to Fort Worth via stagecoach. In 1907, Bellaire had two teachers - Mrs A C White and Miss Alice A Hickey - both of whom taught at Belmont Academy for more than thirty years before retiring in 1956.
