The company was originally called the "Edwin E.Bellaire Rifle and Pistol Company" but changed its name to the "Bellaire Gun Manufacturing Company" in 1916 after Edwin's death. The company manufactured both military rifles and pistols until it ceased operations in 1976.

The town is named for General James Robertson Bell who founded it in 1851. The first settlers in what is now Bellaire were farmers who grew corn and beans on their property. The town of Bellaire, Texas was founded in 1881 by a group of farmers who migrated from the midwestern United States. The community quickly developed into a small farming and ranching center that prospered thanks to its location on the banks of the Arkansas River. In the 1920s, Bellaire became known as the "New Orleans of the Plains". Thanks to its position as an agricultural center and its access to oil and gas wells, the town continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1940. Today, Bellaire remains a vibrant community with a rich history that is still celebrated today. Bellaire's settlements began shortly after settlers arrived in what is now central Texas. By 1881, there were already some residents living within sight of what would later become Bellaire. The first post office was established in 1882, and by 1886, local businesses had begun trading goods and services along the Arkansas River. One such business was J H Biddle's bakery which operated for more than 50 years until it burned down in 1978. In addition to their retail businesses, many early residents engaged in agricultural pursuits. Some ranchers farmed llamas and alpacas while others raised crops such as corn, beans, wheat and cotton. By 1900, bellaires had begun using tractors instead of horses to sow their fields; this change helped spur growth within the community throughout much of this decade. During World War I (1914-18), local men served in various capacities including artillery batteries and infantry squads; however, most notably they took part in trench warfare during France's Battle of Verdun (1916). This experience gave rise to another nickname for Bellaire – "the City on Two Hills" – due to its strategic location atop two hills near downtown; these hills offered excellent viewports for artillery bombardments during wartime operations. One resident who played an important role during World War I was John Fenton Jr., who served as both director of public works for Sherman County (now Limestone County) and mayor of nearby Fort Worth before returning home wounded following the war’s end. Upon his return home he started construction on what would become one of Texas' most significant landmarks: The John Fenton House/Salon Building at 6th Street & Ravenna Avenue – now part of University Park Museum District - which opened its doors on July 1st 1922! A plaque dedicated to Mr Fenton reads: “John Fenton Sr., Founder & Mayor 1923-1927” This building represented not just prosperity but also progressivism – one example being when Mrs Frances Perkins became America’s first female administrator at US Department Of Agriculture (USDA) after serving as deputy commissioner under then Agriculture Secretary James Weaver Sr.; Mrs Perkins originally worked at USDA from 1921-1945! Additionally noteworthy about this building are several exhibits inside which explore American culture during this time period including food processing technology used back then!, art therapies used contemporaneously (& methods), women working behind closed doors at government agencies… etcetera! It is no wonder that Mr Fenton has been called oneofTexas' Most Indispensable Citizens!
Bellaire was founded in 1847 by George Washington Bell and his wife, Nancy. The community was named for the then-new town of Bellville, Texas. In 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee ordered his army to march through the area and destroy all evidence of the Confederacy's existence. A group of men from Bellaire volunteered to help clean up the area after the battle and renamed their community Bellaire in honor of their fallen comrades.
