The first knife shop in Bellaire was opened by Jack Snyder and his sons Harry and John in 1851. By 1861, there were three knife shops operating in Bellaire. One of these stores, the Snyder Knife Shop, became known as the “Queen City’s Knife Store” because of its high-quality knives and accessories. In 1880, George Wetherbee established a grocery store on Main Street that eventually became famous for its supply of quality knives and tools. In 1932, the Wetherbee family sold their ownership of the store to Carlisle Knives Company which continued to operate it until 1984 when it closed down due to financial problems. During this time period, Carlisle also produced some of the most popular knifes including a model called the Saber that remains popular today. Eventually new owners took over the store and reopened it as The Cutlery Place in 1992 after making some rebranding changes which included adding an online presence and changing its name back to The Cutlery Shop again. Recently, they have been sporadically selling items online only so visitors can get their hands on unique pieces from their history too!

Bellaire is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Bellaire began as a small community on the then new Buffalo Bayou. In 1892, the Bellaire Lumber and Manufacturing Company was founded by J.C. Bell and his sons John and George. The company manufactured railroad ties and other lumber products until it merged with Northrop Grumman in 1966 to form Northrop Grumman Bellaire Incorporated (NGBI). The oil refineries operated in nearby Midland from the 1920s until they were mothballed during the Great Depression; however, their production continued until 1973 when Midland closed its refinery doors for good. This left Bellaire without an industrial base which led to some economic troubles such as high unemployment rates among local residents early in the 21st century; however, these have been largely resolved since deregulation of energy prices began in 2001. As one of several communities near Fort Worth that experienced significant growth following World War II due to military spending by both America and Nazi Germany, Bellaire became home to many veteran soldiers who moved back into their former homes after hostilities ended in 1945. Many enlisted men also bought or occupied properties along Buffalo Bayou before selling them off during postwar years; today much of this buffer still exists between downtown and Manvel Drive where most of these veterans reside today. The city government was organized on January 1, 1907 when City Councilmember Wm Sloan took office1 after serving two terms as mayor under Mayor James Fenton2 (1905-07). A municipal court was established on February 4th followed by a library on May 3rd3 but no street improvements were made until 1907 when Main Street was widened from three feet wide to four feet wide with heavy concrete steps leading down to it from what is now upper Business Park Drive4 - this section now known as Henderson Road5 - while portions of what are now Elm Grove Road6/7 remain undeveloped land today because they were used for pasture or grazing purposes only prior to annexation by town: all areas east of US Highway 287 had become open land within 10 years thereafter! On July 1st 1908 election officials certified that new boundaries recommended by Town Board featured an increase of tax assessments from $0 up to $10 per acre9 making possible annexation including parts of present day Elm Grove Road6/7 while still leaving behind much undeveloped land: annexed territory included portions currently located inside Loop 610 loop (eastern border remains mostly unkown)10 . In 1916 voters approved addition of a school district11 . Voters also authorized annexation into Dallas County12 although this never happened due To prohibitionist efforts at that time13 . annexations occurred through popular vote rather than ordinance14 !! Today's municipal government dates back to 1907 with more recent additions being made here such as Parks Department15 (18 acres formerly owned by State Veterans Cemetery)16 ; waterworks17 ; first fire department18 ; second fire department19 ; police department20 & jail21 ....

First settled by American Indians in 1836, Bellaire grew rapidly during the early years of Anglo-American settlement in Texas. By 1860, it had become one of the largest communities in Johnson County with over 2,000 residents. In that year, Bellaire was chosen as the site for the new county courthouse and jail. The town's rapid growth caused some problems; most notably, its high levels of pollution which led to intense debate over whether or not to build additional facilities. Eventually however, both buildings were completed and became integral parts of local life. The town's proximity to Abilene made it an important stop on transportation routes during this time period. For example, John Fitch sold his cattle operation near Abilene to General Sam Houston for $1 million in 1853 without ever leaving Bellaire! This event helped spur economic development within Bellaire and eventually led to its incorporation into Johnson County as a municipality in 1907. During World War II (1941-1945), many people from Bellaire served their country courageously through military service or returned home after hostilities ended. One resident who played significant roles during that time was Don Wessling who worked at JBS processing plant until he joined the Army Air Forces during World War II; he then worked at Bendix Aviation Corporation before returning home to serve his community once again (Wessling 1940). Today's bellairians are impacted by their community's history in multiple ways: First and foremost, they enjoy experiencing traditionalJohnsonCounty values like agriculture and hospitality; secondly theyattribute much of their successto strong partnerships with nearby universities such as Abilene Christian University (AU)and Rice University; finally they proclaim themselvesa “community whose heart is always inside” (Laughlin 2003).

In the early 1900s, the area around Bellaire was a strong agricultural community. The population was about 350 people in 1910. It grew to 1,000 by 1920. By 1940, the population had increased to 4,000 and it grew even more in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1970, Bellaire had a population of 10,000 and it continued to grow until 2000 when it reached its current size of 20,000 people.
