In recent decades much of eastern Tarrant County has been annexed byHouston while westcentral Tarrant County has seen significant development with some new subdivisions being created along I-10 within the past decade or so such as White Settlement which borders Clear Lake and east of FM 19606 just north of Interstate 10 Exit 281B (Upper Clear Lake) which is home to Rice University's main campus as well as other high technology businesses such as Motorola Solutions Headquarters/Southpark Middle School..

Bellaire is named for John Bell, who donated land to the community in 1881. The first settler in what is now Bellaire was Wm. Henshaw and his wife Lucy McDowell in 1882. They had two children: James and Lucilla Ann Henshaw. James married Fannie Lewis in 1899 and they had four children: William (Bill), Frances (Fannie), Clyde (Clyde Lee) and Betty Jean (Betty Jean). Lucilla Ann died unmarried in 1922 after giving birth to her fourth child, a son named Clyde Laughlin Henshaw Jr.. In 1907 Drury House Hotel opened as the first hotel west of the Great Plains on Highway 6 near present day I-35W." That same year $10,000 was raised by local citizens to build a schoolhouse which was dedicated on December 21st of that year." In 1909 a post office called "Bellaire" opened with A.P. Hill as its first mail carrier." A store started operating there also soon after." By 1912 there were 4 businesses operating within the town limits including 2 grocery stores and 2 blacksmith shops." By 1916 there were 10 businesses operating within bellaire Limits including 3 grain elevators & 1 hardware store". In 1917 Mrs Alma Moulton purchased an acreage northeast of bellair from Jno McNaught for $1,500."" Thereafter Mrs Moulton turned her farm into a large spreading cotton plantation known as "Moses Lake". Mr McNaught sold his share interest to Sallie Henderson in 1923 for $7,500."" That same year Henderson sold her land back to Mrs Moulton for $10,000."" In 1926 Mrs Moulton gifted her home - now known as "Mrs Ernest McCullough's Mansion" - to Limestone County for use as an official county seat." On September 15th of that year former Congressman Will Barnes became Bellaires' first mayor when he won election against incumbent Rufus Dillard by over 350 votes out of 1,609 cast!" The currentbellaireschool District Number 5 became operational on October 20th 2002!"
