Bellaire, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on the Bellaire River. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The name "Bellaire" comes from its location on a bend in the Bellaire River which forms the border between Harris County and Montgomery County. In 1836, General James Kossuth and his army invaded Texas during the Mexican-American War to overthrow Mexico's rule over Texas. On November 3, 1836, while General Kossuth was leading his forces into battle against Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna's troops at San Jacinto Rancho Santiago de Tejas near present-day Rosenberg, Texas (just east of Bellaire), he was fatally shot by an unknown individual and died instantly from his injuries. This event is generally cited as marking the beginning of American independence in Mexico and Texans began to refer to their new nation as "the United States of America." Missionaries from California led by José Vasquez founded Mission San Francisco de Asís in 1795 on what are now Hill Country Road and FM 19606 just south of today's city limits; they also founded Mission Concepción de las Americas nearby (1797). A second mission built about 1800 on land acquired by José Arroyo y Gasset may have been intended for African slaves but no slaves were imported until after Mexican independence had been achieved. Bellaire, Texas is a small town in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,354 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Bellaire is bordered by Lamar to the east and west, Humble to the north, and Williamson County to the south. The first people who lived in what is now Bellaire were white men associated with Mission San Antonio de Padua. They arrived in 1836 and named their settlement after Joséfina Cerón y Peña, sister of Don Armando Cerón y Peña, one of the founders of Mission San Antonio de Padua. In 1837 these men founded a school for local children which became known as "Página Blanca" (White Page). When Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821 itdefaulted on its treaty obligations to Santa Anna and began war against Mexico. On October 16th1825 Mexican Colonel Vicente Guerrero called upon all sections of Texas to rise up against Alvarado because he believed that he had been cheated out of his share of land in Texcoco deal by Alvarado's neighbor Juan Bautista Chávez. A force consisting mostly civilian volunteers under General Narciso López marchineto Texcoco where they found Alvarado's army camped awaiting them with artillery and muskets while supplies were stored away at Pánuco Damoletos nearby. After successful assaults on Mexican positions through most of November they reached Texcoco but encountered strong resistance from entrenched Mexican forces under Álvaro Bravo Elías including an attempted cavalry assault that resulted in 125 casualties for Chávez’s lost unit only three days after its formation! rebels managed to pushed back repeated columns commanded by BravoElías until December 6 when reinforcements arrived under General Tomás García Morelos leading to a decisive victory over vastly outnumbered Mexicans resulting in 300 dead or wounded on both sides plus 400 prisoners taken! With this victory Guerra assumed command of allTexcocofreemen units east of the Rio Grande except for those garrisoning Pánuco Damoletos which reverted back into Spanish hands just before Christmas!. This victory brought about some changes within Mexico City as Agustín Lerdo Tricarico became interim president following Simón Bolévar’s death while Santa Anna continued ruling as dictator Calles rule saw further civil unrest culminating with his overthrow two years later during La Feria revolt led by Martín Camacho Zaragoza In 1830 John Wesley Powell discovered oil near Fredericksburg TX while exploring claims along Buffalo Bayou & traveled down Buffalo Creek trying unsuccessfullyto find oil wells until being joined by Confederate Major Jubal Early who established an Oil Fieldcamp thereon [source: The American Battlefield Park website].
