Bellaire is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and is located 95 miles (151 km) northeast of Dallas. The community was named for General James A. Bell and his family who settled there in 1881. In 1907, the first post office was established here with the name of Maple Hill. The town became known as Bellaire because of its high school which opened in 1899 and later became Baylor University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After years of growth, the city limits were expanded to include portions of neighboring towns McLean and Garland before being repealed by voters in 2002 when they decided to keep their own boundaries (though they still vote on local issues). In anticipation of annexation by Arlington Heights after the 2001 U.S Census showed that McLennan County had increased its population by 7%, Bellaire residents voted on incorporation into Arlington Heights on November 5th, 2001 over a proposal from nearby Garland Township which would have allowed for annexation only if it approved an equal increase in population within its borders (the township's population had only grown by 2%.). The decision to annex was made based on calculations that it would be more efficient for government services to be centrally located within a single municipality rather than spread out among numerous villages/towns/cities; Bellaire also has a larger public library than any other municipality in McLennan County. Despite this addition of infrastructure and resources,Bellaire has been struggling economically since 2007 due largely to low commodity prices resulting from global recession conditions throughout much of 2006-2007; however some businesses have begun reopening following improved economic times while others are inactive or closed due to lack of demand or competition from newer malls popping up near them across town (those malls generally serve as anchors for new development). Despite these challenges, bellaires people continue to contribute generously every year through giving back programs such as car wash nights/weekends or cash donations specifically designated towards charity projects outside their community; many events are free or very inexpensively priced so that everyone can participate regardless income level.

The town experienced rapid growth after World War II when the oil industry began to develop in the area. The population of Bellaire peaked at over 30,000 in 1960 and declined to around 17,000 by 2000. However, recent economic development has caused the population to rise again to over 20,000 today. The history of Bellaire dates back to 1836 when General James Bell purchased land east of present-day Houston for $4 per acre (1/4 mile). He founded what is now known as "the old community". This was a small farming town that consisted of about 25 buildings scattered across 6 square miles (15 km²). At its height, Bellaire had an enrollment of 100 residents and Employed 10 workers. After independence from Mexico was gained on November 16th, 1846 (2 days after Texan Independence Day), many Texans decided that they wanted their own state - so much so that Colonel John Fannin organized a militia group called “The Forty” which he called "Bell County Volunteers" to march into Mexico City with banners reading "Equality and Liberty!" on November 21st under pretext of retrieving supplies being held there by Emperor Maximilian I Pérez de Cuellar y Costilla...At Salinas they found nothing but warehouses filled with munitions and food stuff destined for+Mexico City... cannon fodder!
