By 1912, oil was being produced at an average rate of one thousand barrels per day from four wells located in three fields totaling 375 acres (150 hectares). In 1916, additional wells were drilled and production became more consistent with that achieved during the early years of this period when each well yielded 400 barrels per day. by 1922, oil had been discovered at six different sites within a 100-mile radius of Beeville; this number has since grown to over thirty-five sites producing an average daily output of 1 million barrels. This growth led to a decrease in the price for crude oil which caused production costs to increase However, due to technological advances and improvements made to refining processes throughout World War II these costs decreased again
Beeville is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the Brazos River near its confluence with the Red River. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Beeville were French traders and missionaries in 1697, who named it "Beausejour". In 1836, Beeville was founded by General James Foard as a trading post on an island in the Brazos River. The post served as a base for his Expedition against Mexico that year and also acted as a stopover for other travelers before their long journey eastward. In 1838, Beeville became an area of Texas under Mexican rule when Captain Carlos Menchaca assigned it to Colonel Antonio López de Santa Anna's brigade of engineers working on Mexico's new military infrastructure north of Austin. After Santa Anna's defeat at Palo Alto in 1840, Beeville reverted to American control until Anglo-American forces regained it following the battle of San Jacinto in 1867. The town experienced rapid growth during Reconstruction due to railroad construction and agriculture; however, economic stagnation followed World War II until A&P bought the local grocery store chain in 1957 and began developing Beeville into one of Texas' most popular suburbs. Growth resumed after A&P sold its stake in the company and subsequent development has been steady but modest over recent years; however, progress has recently been made towards becoming one of Houston's most diverse suburbs with significant investments from both private and public entities including comprehensive housing developments ( chiefly Affordable Housing Tax Credits ), open space acquisition (including several golf courses ), retail development ( principally strip mall conversions ) and heavy investment from developers intent on creating high-density residential areas within walking distance or less than 10 miles from central business districts . Today, much like many rural communities throughout this country experiencing similar challenges such as population aging demographics combined with increasing competition for limited resources , few residents have any illusions about permanently abandoning their hometowns or abandoning opportunities for growth ; nevertheless there is no lack of effort or drive among community members to maintain some semblance of communal life despite increasingly difficult odds

As it became more populous, businesses and Telephone Company called Beeville "Bella Vista" while residents continued to call it "Webb County". The Ector-Webb Telephone Company bought out the Bell Operating Companies in 1961 and began operating under that name until 1984 when all telephone service was discontinued in Webb County due to federal law requiring all phone companies to provide service throughout Texas regardless of county seat. The city's first hospital opened in 1889 and closed in 1915. Today there are two hospitals which are both owned by Memorial Hermann Health System: one located on Main Street east of downtown which opened in 1966 and serves as the main hospital for northeastern Webb County; and another located on Lake Worth Boulevard northwest of downtown which opened in 1978 and serves as a tertiary care/specialty hospital for southeastern Webb County. There also is an ambulatory surgery center with 10 surgical theaters located on 1 acre (4,000 m2) north of downtown on Park Avenue across from Baylor University Medical School
