Beeville is a small town in the Texas Hill Country, located in Johnson County. The population was 2,293 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls–Ft Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to Beeville were farmers who arrived in 1839. In 1845, John Cavanaugh and his family built a cabin on what is now known as Main Street. The community's name originated with J.P. A post office was established in 1902 and renamed Beeville in 1909 after J.P.'s son, James P., Jr., who served as its first postmaster. By 1920, the population of Beeville had grown to 1,500 people and it became one of Johnson County's largest municipalities with three . machine shops (manufacturing goods), twenty-one stores ( innumerable others serving both local residents and travelers passing through), six churches (the Methodist Episcopal Church being predominant), three schools (grades one through twelve; also an agricultural high school), two hotels/motels (one named "The Eagle" and one "The Knob", both operated by the Baptist Convention Committee Of Wichita Falls) and five agriculturalallies including four cotton plantations along Buffalo Bayou! In 1923, Fort Worth annexed Johnson County making Beeville effectively annexationless save for its municipal water system which continued to be run by Johnson County until 1981 when it became part of Fort Worth Municipal Water District #5 following their merger into Dallas Municipal Water District #5! AsJohnsonCounty grew increasingly Democratic from World War II onward many businesses closed or changed hands due to political affiliation changes within TX government: Robert Dole ran for governor against incumbent George W Bush in 1994 but lost because he couldn't win over Republicans within his own party; Bill Clinton won re-election easily against Bob Dole despite losing most rural strongholds; Fayetteville Mayor Tom McGrath pushed for annexation himself during his mayoral term – which resulted in Fort Worth annexing Fayetteville proper rather than giving it back to Fayetteville City Limits proper as had been proposed – but this effort failed; finally Houston annexed most of Johnson County proper while leaving Beevile untouched effective January 1st 1997).
