Beeville, Texas is a small town in south-central Texas. The population was 1,972 at the 2000 census. Beeville is located in Bell County. The town name is derived from Anglo-Spanish bevillo meaning "a little spot." The first settler in what is now Beeville was Antonio Gomez who arrived there around 1836. By 1840, the town had a post office and four stores. A sawmill started up in 1849 and by 1861 the town had three churches and six businesses. In 1865, when the Kansas–Oklahoma War began, most ofBell County became part of Oklahoma while Beeville remained within Texas. When the war ended on November 27, 1865, much of Oklahoma was again transferred to Texas as part of the Compromise of 1867 which also included Arizona Territory. At this time Beeville's population numbered just ninety five people but by 1880 it had increased to one thousand nine hundred fifty seven residents including twenty eight teachers and thirty two students at Mount Pleasant Academy (now Sam Houston State University). During its early years Beeville was known for its large cotton plantations where many planters employed African Americans as servants or sharecroppers until they were emancipated during the late nineteenth century when white ownership began to change across America. By 1900 however most of the plantations were gone and replaced by agricultural land that yielded corn, soybeans, cattle, hay and other products such as food for chickens or pigs; power plants for heating homes; manufacturing plants for textiles such as dyes or shoes; and several libraries which served both local children and those living out-of-town on county government funded tours during summertime. In 1950s new residents moved into what would become downtown Beeville after bulldozing an old schoolhouse which sat on a hill overlooking center square whereinitially only farmers stored their leased land before selling it back to taxpayers each year during their open market auction process known locally as "king's market". The development attracted business owners who opened restaurants/stores/homesites with adjacent parking meters providing free street parking for customers inside those businesses until 1984 when meters were introduced outside those businesses along arterial streets subjecting motorists to fines if they park too close to any stoplight without having paid first! One common complaint against these systems has been that vehicles are parked illegally around meter patches creating a public health hazard since hot asphalt can cause fires! Today downtown features several high end shops including Macy's Department Store (established 1888), Sears & Roebuck (1890), Body Shop (1948) renovated in 2013 into a high end fashion store called GAP - General Association Powership - La Brea Street Warehouse - opened April 21st 2014! Downtown also includes several parks including Park Meadows Cemetery [founded 1850], Towne Lake Recreation Center [opened 1984], South Park[opened 2009] completed in fall 2014 after years of planning by city officials along with private donations from individuals interested in seeing it completed

Beeville is a town in Bowie County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,995 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bowie County. The name "Beeville" comes from the French word "Belle-Villes", meaning "Beautiful Cities." The first settlers in what is now Beeville were white men who came overland from Louisiana in 1836. They named their new community after General James Buford, a hero of the Mexican-American War and Ulysses S. Grant's successful general during that conflict. Beeville grew rapidly and by 1840 had a population of 2,000 people. In 1845, Beeville became an independent city and adopted its current name. In 1870, Beeville became part of the Texas Rangers Service and was designated as a ranger post for serving within Ranger District 12A which included much of present-day Bowie County including parts of today's Beeville Township and Park Heights neighborhood on the northwest side of town. The district was brigadier general William Hogg's command when he led Union forces against Confederate General Robert Easley at Slaughterhouse Creek in April 1865; shortly thereafter he transferred to command District 12B which served as Confederate territory throughout most of 1865 before it fell to Union hands on April 9th when Confederate General Pemberton surrendered at Fort Donelson near Knoxville Tennessee without any fight or resistance In 1907, under statehood legislation passed by then-Governor John Connally (D), Beeville annexed portions of Park Heights neighborhood west of downtown to form what is now known as Parkside Village The following year saw another annexation with Center Square block east off Main Street becoming East Village It wasn't until 1930 that all annexations were complete with West Side Square taking up land south of Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue
In 1905, Beeville was created as a Township in Cameron County, Texas. The township was named after William Beeville and his brother-in-law John A. Post. In 1912, the City of Beeville was founded within the township. The city was named for General James Kenedy who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became governor of Texas.
