By 1850, Beeville had an grocery store, two churches, a schoolhouse and one hundred residents. A cotton gin was built in 1857 by Jobe Ladd for $5 per acre (($).) In 1861, General James Beeville joined Confederate forces during the American Civil War because he believed that slavery should be defended against Lincoln's attempts to end it through legislation such as the expansion of slavery into new states. He served throughout the war until his death at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865.. After his death, Texas Governor Anson Perry proclaimed that "General James Beeville has left us an immortal memory." In 1893 local citizens organized a society to promote agriculture which later became known as The Farmers Union of America

In 1876, Beeville became an independent municipality and adopted a new name - "Beeville". In 1907, Beeville developed a water tower that would serve as the centerpiece of its municipal water system. The tower remains standing today and is used for localgovernment purposes today. The original courthouse building burned down in 1911 but was replaced with a more recent structure during World War II. The current courthouse building was dedicated on October 8th of that year by then-Governor John Connally. During the 1960s and 1970s Beeville experienced some growth thanks to oil industry activity which led to increased economic development including the construction of numerous factories and other businesses such as ExxonMobil's Irving Refining Plant which remain active today as part of ChevronTexaco TX Incorporated..
