Bedford is a town in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,948 at the 2010 census. Bedford is located on the bank of Clear Fork River. The first settlers in Bedford were Levi and Sarah Smith who came from Virginia in 1826. They built a log cabin on the bluff overlooking the river. In 1830, they married Anna Elizabeth Stone and had three children: Levi (1831-1904), Jacob (1833-1910), and Mary Jane (1835-1912). They also raised hogs and cattle on their property until 1851 when they decided to move to what is now Kerr County because of its fertile soil. Anna Elizabeth Stone died in 1850 while pregnant with their fourth child, John Elisha Stone. John Elisha Stone became a landowner in Bedford and developed some of his land into today's downtown area including the current courthouse complex which was built in 1907. In 1870, he married Lavinia Sweetwater and moved to Fort Worth where he became an entrepreneur in banking and real estate development before dying at age 87 years old in 1984. In 1865, Confederate General James Longstreet's army invadedTexarkanaand destroyed most of the homes of citizens east of Killeen Bridge but spared Bedford because it was located on Round Top Hill outside Fort Bend County In 1899, JF Henson bought 5 acres southeast of present day Bedford from Wm Denton for $3 per acre After World War I Memorial Hospital opened nearby Henson donated additional land for hospital expansion which included administration building/administration parking garage as well as new ambulatory surgery center . The Medical Drive clinic opened along Memorial Drive adjacent to Henson Property on December 3rd 1951 renamed Drs McDermott Associates PC after Drs McDermott purchased adjoining portion from JF Henson

Bedford, Texas is a small town located in the Midwestern United States. The population was 7,824 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Hudspeth County. The first settlers in Bedford were Ulster Scots immigrants who arrived in 1827. They were followed by Germans and Irish immigrants in the 1830s. The area that now makes up Bedford was Jedediah Smith's Ranch when he sold it to John Chilton in 1836. Chilton founded the town on land that he bought from Smith. In 1847, a post office was established at Bedford and continued to be used until 1907. In 1865, Confederate General Braxton Bragg surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia and all remaining Confederate forces retreated through Bedford to Nacogdoches, Texas - one of four places they surrendered their arms and property to Ulysses S. Grant's Union army following the battle of First Manassas ( April 14-1865). Afterward, many of these families moved back into Bedford where they had originally settled during the war years. In 1890, there were only 5 residents living in Bedford; by 1920 there were over 100 people living there with an overall population around 2,000 people according to Census estimates for 1930-1940 inclusive; however this increased greatly with World War II as many women joined husbands or brothers serving abroad (the so called "Overseas Bachelors") & grew trapeland much like other American towns did during wartime This growth also included large numbers of new immigrant children coming from Mexico City after 1915 when President Wilson declared America open to Mexicans seeking asylum - thus starting what would become known as Mexican Migration into North America Additionally due to high birth rates among Native Americans due to treaties & genocide accomplished by Indian Affairs head Black Hawk under US President Polk his tribe lost nearly half its population between 1830-1900 leaving most young adults without parents or grandparents leading them onto reservations gridlock along Rio Grande River if not outright expulsion Eventually white flight began resulting mostly from oil production brought on by federal regulation rather then anything done directly/implicitly BY THE INDIAN AFFAIRS HEADED TEXAS GOVERNOR WILKES FERDINAND & HIS OWN ADMINISTRATION
