Bedford is a town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,913 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio–Houston area. Bedford was founded in 1879 as a post office and settlements began to form around it soon after. A railroad depot was built there in 1881 and the town prospered from its location, becoming one of the largest cotton plantations in Texas. In 1907, Bedford became an independent municipality and by 1920 had a population of 5,000 residents. However, during World War II Bedford's economy shifted towards munitions production due to its strategic location on I-10 near El Paso and its close proximity to other booming cotton-producing areas such as Monterrey and Lubbock. After the war ended Bedford experienced rapid growth with 3,500 residents by 1970 but declined thereafter until 2001 when it reached its current population of 1,913 people. The town center occupies most of this area with two blocks main thoroughfares running north-south each totaling . The remaining land contains smaller streets that are mostly straight or gently curved with some slight turns; these make up much of the terrain around downtown Bedfordtown proper where most activity takes place today outside what can be seen from Main Street itself due to development over time within the boundaries set for it by City Council members including zoning changes approved unanimously last year that expand retail space currently available only inside local businesses just beyond what's currently visible from Elm Street looking out onto Bagdad Road/I-10 eastbound only providing views into residential areas across Bagdad Road all while still able to see acres upon acres of open countryside behind both properties adjoining them subjecting no part thereof whatsoever to any public use whatever without first obtaining written consent from all property owners therein prior thereto regardless whether they have been notified or not least among whom may be those owning parcel(s) now within sight but unobserved viewable from Elm Street looking out onto Bagdad Road/I-10 eastbound

Bedford, Texas is a small town located in Johnson County, Texas. The population was 7,712 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1868 by German immigrants as Bedford Station, named for General James Bedford who led American forces against Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The name changed to Bedford after it became a county seat in 1872. The first post office opened in 1875 and the first school was built in 1870. In 1895, Bedford incorporated as a city and had its own police department until it merged with Round Rock in 1998. Bedford has been significant historically because of its role as the center of country music legends Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. A large number of their recordings were made at Sun Records Studios on North Lamar Street nearpresent day downtown Austin. Elvis Presley's "Blue Moon" album was recorded here on October 14, 1969; his "A Little Less Conversation" album on November 16th; and his "Woodstock" album on January 1st 1970 both at Sun Records studios Jerry Lee Lewis's "I Can't Quit You Baby"album also took place here early 1971 on July 24th not long after he moved from Memphis to Austin
