The history of Bedford can be traced back to its earliest days when two men from England set out on horseback to explore what lay beyond their small village. They found an area that would later become known as the Rio Grande Valley and decided to settle there. The first occupants were British colonists who arrived in 1827 and started farming operations. Over time they began trading goods with other parts of America and developed close relationships with both Mexico and Canada. However, due to political changes in Britain during World War II some of these colonists decided to move back home while others chose to fight for Britain against Nazi Germany. Some notable residents include Sir John Rankine (1893-1973), who helped create what is now known as Mexican City; Rear Admiral Harry Harkness (1922-2009), who served as Commander Royal Navy during World War II;and Edwin Epps (1906-2006). When World War II ended Bedford had already seen some heavy fighting including damage done to several homes including one where General George Custer died during battle near Buffalo Gap on November 25th 1918. After the war many new businesses were opened up such as grocery stores, florists, dry goods stores etcetera which helped drive growth in the town throughout the postwar period . In 1951 when census data revealed that Bedford had only 1,000 residents it quickly gained momentum as people poured into town looking for opportunity within its growing economy . In recent years many new jobs have been created within Bedlington’s plastics industry which has led to increased development within this sector across neighbouring communities . Today’s environment is very different from those experienced by original inhabitants such as agriculture which is no longer an importantstay within society ; today’s economy relies heavily upon services such as education , healthcare , transportation & more As mentioned before Bedlington has grown rapidly throughout successive censuses but retains much of its historical charm making it an excellent place for family fun & culture !!
Bedford is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas located about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Austin and about 18 miles (29 km) east of Dallas. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Bedford-Frisco, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Bedford were men who came overland from New Mexico in 1827. They named their new settlement after John Bedford, an Englishman who had settled in that area some years earlier. A post office was established at Bedford in 1830, and it remained until it was discontinued in 1907. The community grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its strategic location on a major Transcontinental Railroad line. Railroads brought many people and businesses to Bedford, including farmers and millers who invested in land and constructed mills around the town center. In addition, many soldiers from the American Civil War garrisoned Fort Worth around Bedford during that time period. After Texas became a U.S.-Mexico treaty territory following the Mexican–American War, most of what is now Bedfordcreek belonged to Webb County; however, some portions passed through into Starr County whenubb county was divided between Texas and Arizona during Reconstruction after the war ended. In 1888, much of what is nowBedford Hundred became part of Arlington Heights which later became Arlington Municipal Corporation before becoming Arlington County
