The next year, the town passed an ordinance increasing fines for persons convicted of owning or possessing a handgun without a license. This law helped to reduce crime rates in Bedford and made it one of the safest towns in Texas. In 1978, Bedford became an incorporated city and again passed an ordinance banning handguns. Despite this law being passed, handgun trafficking continued to occur throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Bedford is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas about 25 miles (40 km) south of Dallas. The population was 3,483 at the 2010 census, down from 4,059 at the 2000 census. Bedford is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Bedford was founded in 1847 as a cattle ranch by John Tatum and his wife Sarah Stephenson. A post office was established in Bedford in 1850, and a school was built there in 1851. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location at the intersection of two important wagon roads (the Red River Road and the Dallas road). In 1865, Bedford became an independent municipality under the name Lenoxville. It changed its name to Bedford in 1867 when it annexed nearby Pleasant Grove and other smaller towns east of Boston Heights on what is now I-35W. After annexation, Bedford experienced rapid growth due to new industry such as agriculture, mining, logging and manufacturing; however, during World War II much of this activity shifted to Texas military bases outside of town because wartime production requirements were different than postwar civilian demand. In 1950–1951 local officials worked with federal planners to develop plans for redevelopment called "A New Town". This involved demolishing most existing buildings and replacing them with modern structures designed for suburban living; land that had been used for agricultural purposes was leased back to farmers while new industrial parks were built near downtown Bedford Centre which became home to heavy industry until the early 21st century In 1969 layoffs caused by technological change led more than 1,000 people out of jobs in downtown Bedford Center into surrounding neighborhoods including Arlington Heights and Mesquite; these areas have since become bedroom communities for those within walking distance of central Bedford orDallas. Finally following a referendum vote by residents in 1984 they approved annexing additional farmland northward culminating with their current city limits which encompass all but 1/2 mile (1/4 km) extending into Garland County beyond their original boundaries

Bedford, Texas is a small town located in Starr County, Texas. The population was 2,638 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1871 by a group of Englishmen who were looking for a new home after leaving their original settlement in East Tennessee. It was named after George Bedford, an Englishman who had served as surveyor general for the Mexican Republic and had helped to found Austin, Texas. The first settlers in Bedford were some of the older men from nearby Mobeetie who had arrived in 1868. A few years later, what became known as the Bedford School District was formed with two schools: one for boys and one for girls. In 1875, the first post office was established in Bedford and it remains operational to this day. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location and access to water resources which made it an ideal place to settle. By 1880, the population of Bedford had reached 781 people and by 1890 it had grown to 1,000 residents. One of the most significant events that took place in Bedford during this time was when oil started being drilled into nearby shale formations. This led to increased business activity within the town as well as more people moving intotown from surrounding rural areas. This also led to a dramatic increase in manufacturing activity which contributed significantly to local economic growth over the years. In addition, Bedford played a major role during World War II when many locals volunteered their services both on-and off-island and helped build infrastructure such as airfields and naval vessels yards across Starr County
