Beaumont, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Beaumont County. As of 2010, its population was 354,631. The city was founded in 1876 by General Sam Houston as a military depot on the banks of the Trinity River. The name "Beaumont" is from French for "blessed be God." It became an agricultural center during the late 19th century, with cotton plantations being developed around Beaumont's riverside area. The oil industry began to grow in Beaumont after World War I, as Texaco built its first refinery at Beaumont-North Port in 1922. In 1929, North American Aviation moved its headquarters from Wichita, Kansas to Beaumont and started manufacturing Boeing airliners here. After nationalization of the oil industry in 1933, production at North American Aviation stopped and Beaumont became an alternate destination for suppliers until it closed its doors in 1935. During World War II, major defense industries such as Lockheed Aircraft Corporation were established here including Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company which manufactures both fighter and bomber aircraft today; McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation which produces helicopters; Pratt & Whitney Canada Limited (P&W) which manufactures turbines for power plants all over the world; and Hughes Electric Company (HAKOMA) – now part of United Technologies Corporation – which manufactured jetliners before their retirement beginning in 2006. Many large companies left town during this time but those that stayed created many local jobs throughout ensuing decades including United States Steel Corporation that continues to produce steel products hereabouts; Westinghouse Electric Company that produced electric energy products such as lights and appliances before they went public in 1957; Alcoa Companies' aluminum smelters (notably Three Rivers Aluminum) that continue operations until present day; Bob Evans Restaurants - one of Texas' most successful restaurant chains - whose corporate headquarters are located just east of downtown Beaumont on Towne Avenue near Lake Travis; Phillips 66 Refineries Incorporated - now Phillips 66 Energy - operated two light crude oil refineries until 1984 when it opened a new refinery named Marathon Petroleum just south of town on Highway 287 called Marathon Oil Refinery Number 2 During these years there were also several high profile accidents or incidents happening within or nearby cities including: On November 30th 1954 Jack Ruby shot president John F Kennedy while he rode his bike through Dallas Park Cemetery killing him instantly seconds later Jackie Robinson served nine months prison time after breaking curfew while out partying with friends then returning home to start his professional career playing baseball for Brooklyn Dodgers then going into management followed by becoming CEO/President/CEO at AEP National Power Company where he introduced deregulation across all sectors resulting in bankruptcy three times still ongoing twenty years later)... In 1907 when First National City bank failed in Houston causing widespread panic throughout America which led to increased money lending by national banks Chubb & Co., Jardine Hetherington took over control of First National City Bank while Jardine continued as president until his death nine years later giving rise to another banking dynasty at First National City followed by even more Panic Loan failures! At this time banker John Darnell Moody became chairman emeritus controlled not only by Jardine’s son Talbot Moody III but also merger partner Paine Webber who had purchased majority ownership from James Pogue Wilkinson six years earlier! With rapidly spreading railroad development across South Central US coastal cities such loans were becoming increasingly difficult to obtain against rising rail rates! Moody quickly closed all remaining related businesses—slaughterhouses included—and began seeking other ways to make ends meet including expanding production into Sam Rayburn Stadiums football stadium soon afterwards! Along side Moody’s efforts Sam Rayburn Stadium would also house one half dozen other local businesses that would provide jobs for locals long after he left office leaving behind an American Tobacco empire dating back over 100 years with today’s headquarters located near downtown Austin

At that time much larger than present-day Houston with about 2 million people within its borders, Humble accounted for over 50% of all Harris County’s population growth between 1990 and 2000 while Bellaire—the fastest-growing municipality within Harris County—held just 10%. . . . The original land grant for what is now Beaumont included 5 square miles (13 km²) on either side of Buffalo Bayou across from Huntsville at what is now Springdale Road/Highway 619 southbound off IH 45 eastbound near FM 1960 northbound near US 281 westbound (now Beltway 8), making it one of Texas’ smallest cities at that time outside Wichita Falls or Amarillo [now Fort Worth].
