Baytown, Texas is a city in Baytown County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,786 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Baytown County. The first weapon flashlight was invented by Harry Caldwell in 1918. His product was called the “Caldwell Weapon Flashlight” and it used a rechargeable battery to light up objects at a distance up to 100 feet (30 m). Caldwell's invention was not successful but he continued development of his product until his death in 1947. In 1951, George Pappas developed an improved version of the weapon flashlight which he called the "Pappas Weapon Flashlight". This flashlight used an electronic bulb to emit light and had a range of up to 350 feet (122 m). In 1957, William Danson created a new type of weapon flashlight which he named the "Danson Weapon Flashlight". This flashlight used energy from small batteries to emit light and had a range of up to 850 feet (260 m). Between 1958 and 1959, three other inventors made improvements to weapons flashlights - Clifford Fenwick improved upon Pappas' design with his own device known as the “Fenwick Weapon Flashlight”; Lamar Cochran created an updated version of Danson's design which he called the "Cochran WeaponFlashlight"; and Julius Nyrop contributed his own design which became known as the "Nyrop WeaponFlashlight". These four devices are generally considered as prototype weapon flashlights because they did not achieve commercial success. However, they were influential in their time and continue to be popular today. In 1959, George Pappas died suddenly while working on another project for his company. He was buried with hisweapon flashlight at Elmwood Cemetery in Baytown after leaving it unfinished when he died. After George Pappas' death, manufacturers began producing versions of his original design including those produced by Westinghouse Electric Company under its subsidiary American Electric Light Company division LED division (later renamed Lamp & Tool Corporation). The baytown, Texas history of weapon flashlight begins with the arrival of the first self-loading rifles in 1836. The rifle was a muzzleloader that fired a ballista (a longbow) projectile. This weapon was used by Texan frontier folk to hunt game and capture Survivors from Indian attacks. In 1881, the first electric light bulb was introduced in Baytown. At this time, there were no streetlights and only occasional candles or lanterns were used for illumination on local streets and businesses. In 1896, an electric light plant was opened in Baytown and began supplying all of Baytown with electrical power. This made it possible for businesses to have their own lights as well as provide night illumination for residents/workers on various local streets. In 1937, an ordinance became law forbidding any public lighting at night until after 10 PM during weekdays when business hours were established. This ordinance served as a deterrent against criminals who may have wanted to commit crime during late night hours when there would be no one available to watch over things
Baytown, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 105,651 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Harris County after Houston. It is located on Interstate 10 about 15 miles (24 km) west of Houston and is one of the most diverse cities in Texas. Baytown was founded in 1836 as an agricultural center on Buffalo Bayou near present day Richmond Hill and has been home to numerous famous people including Denzel Washington, Will Rogers, and Lyndon B. Johnson. In recent years Baytown has become a major economic center with several businesses based there such as software company Dell and shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Ltd.. The history of Baytown begins with settlers searching for land to farm around 1836 when Buffalo Bayou became available as a navigable route from Galveston to Corpus Christi due to its flow into Sabine River. A post office called "Baytown" was established in 1837, but no town developed until 1840 when Jimmie Andrews opened a store on leased land east of downtown. Andrews named his business "Broadway Land & Buildings", which later became known as The Broad Building which still stands today at 6th and Main Streets across from IH10 Headquarters Airport Parkway between 610 SqDN exit 12A and 620 NU exit 11B). By 1850 Baytown had more than 100 residents although only 2-3 blocks were downtown because of high demand for land north of Main Street due to growth in nearbyHouston . In 1857 James Fenton established another store at 7th & San Jacinto Streets which became known as The Fenton Store due to its founder's ownership by James Fenton Jr.. In 1865 Jethro Gibbs opened what is now known as Gibbs Furniture Company at 9th & Lamar Streets which became the largest furniture store in Texas until it closed circa 1978 after selling its assets to Sears Roebuck & Co.. During this time baytown also saw some heavy industry activity with several small businesses operating out of various storefronts downtown including Smith Lithographing Company (later becoming Zenith Radio Corporation), saddlery shop Girdles Saloon (now Girdles Hardware), bootsmith shop Broadway Boot Blacksmith Shop, cigars factory Cuban Cigars Factory Manufacturing Company (founded by Joaquin Castro), rice mill Texaco Rice Mill #2 and other operations along Main Street such as blacksmith shops etc... By 1870 less than 1/5 mile from downtown all stores had closed down or moved away leaving just three buildings remaining: The Broad Building; Alley House; And Mrs Beattie's Bakery where Mrs Beattie ran a grocery until her death in 1925 - remaining one of only two buildings left standing from that era before automobiles replaced most transportation once again driving much Downtown Development Outdoors business out into streetscape ). After Prohibition ended many owners lost their licenses so few businesses operated during prohibition that even today not every building still standing from pre-prohibition days retains any form Of Commerce (. Businesses built prior To 1935 are generally gone though there are a few remnants like Girdles Hardware now reopened under new management). After prohibition white male entrepreneurs began looking for opportunities outside the criminal underworld while African American entrepreneurs took over some old blackowned businesses providing services such as cooking supplies or laundry service while African Americans worked inside whiteowned companies providing jobs outside traditional family enterprises typically considered appropriate for Afro-American employees . This period also saw growth among Mexican American entrepreneurs who started small businesses catering specifically to Mexicans living within close proximity withinHouston metropolitan area ..baytown experienced rapid growth following World War II fueled by military personnel stationed here during wartime production shortages elsewhere . After 1945 suburban development increased leading many veterans returning home seeking opportunity instead of integration into urban areas causing increasing crime rates along WithIt being increasingly difficult for newly arrived families unable or unwilling To ratchet up their own social security contributions leading some families moving back out into rural areas tryingTo redevelop abandoned farmssteads ).
