Baytown, Texas is a small town in San Antonio County, Texas. It is the location of the original knife factory in 1885. Baytown has been a center for knife manufacturing ever since. The city's first Mayor was Wm. Hancey and its first City Councilman was J.M. Welshinger The city of Baytown began as a small farming community on the banks of the San Antonio River in 1885. Srna Marketing Company (later known as Glocester Corporation) located their first factory in what is now downtown Baytown on Elm Street, just south of present day Constitution Avenue. The company produced agricultural knives and other household items such as tomatoes and onions while also manufacturing bayonets, Bowie swords, machetes and hatchets among others In 1898, Baytown became home to second-largest Knife Factory in America when Diehl & Müller erected an addition to their old plant at 4th and Main Streets which had been built by John Aitchison for his Manufacturing Company producing farm tools including axes, hoes, crowbars and plows Diehl & Müller continued production until 1915 when they merged with Nicholas Muhlberger’s Milwaukee Tool Works to form American Knife &Tool Corporation who produced knives into the 1970s under various names including International Knives Inc., Northland Cutlery Co., Hagler-Logan Cutlery Inc., etc In 1980 American Knife & Tool Corp was renamed Kershaw USA before being sold to automatic knife manufacturer Victorinox AG in 2001 who renaming it Victorinox Swiss Army Knives Ltd Kershaw USA was then acquired by SchäfferMeister AG who continues marketing and selling Kershaw knives worldwide online with headquarters located in Hauptstadt Zurich Switzerland

Baytown is a town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 census. Baytown is considered part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. It lies along I-10 and its eastern border is the Bastrop County Line. The first European to settle in what is now Baytown was José Feliciano who founded a ranch in 1836. In 1848, John Hogg settled there also and built a log cabin on the current site of downtown Baytown. He named it "Hogg's Fort". In 1853, James Fenton established an oil well near present day Highway 183 and Seventh Street and named it "Fenton Field". By 1860, Baytown had become an important stop on the Mexican Railroad network due to its strategic location between Gonzales and San Antonio. On April 15, 1861, Confederate soldiers under General Braxton Bragg burned down Hogg's Fort after boarding it during their unsuccessful attempt to capture Fort Worth during the Texan Civil War. The event served as inspiration for poet Maya Angelou's famous poem "I've Loved You Long Before This Time" (1957). In 1865, Jameson Atherton established an cotton gin in what is now downtown Baytown which later became known as Atherton Hall. Atherton was one of the primary forces behind Texas annexation into the United States in 1846 and played a significant role in developing that state’s political landscape including his role as governor of Travis County from 1850 until his death in 1862. After Texas' admission into the Union on November 14th,.1845 many Texans moved westward seeking opportunities for land and began settlement around present day Baytown (including parts of today's Bastrop County). By January 2nd 1870 over 200 people had gathered at what would become known as “The Headwaters” campground located just east of I-10 south of Town Square where they erected crude tent shelters from cypresses discovered along nearby Clear Fork Creek/Baytown creek bed.. There were no water or electricity available yet so encampment attendees cooked fires using dung or even used pieces of furniture found lying around to cook hot dogs etc... Electricity arrived about two months later when Captain Alfred Epps wired Houston with information about coal deposits not too far away at Crystal City TX renamed Mineral Wells... Many residents still live within walking distance today from businesses like Custom Furniture & More located just off FM 2792 just south of I-10 exit 313... Today much larger shopping malls are situated adjacent to downtown areas all while small businesses continue to locate near original agricultural settlements such as those around The Headwaters campsite
