Gun magazines have a storied history in Baytown, Texas. The first gun magazine in the city was started in 1882 by John G. Nicolay and Julius C. Maggiore. It was called the Baytown Rifle & Pistol Club, and it served as a place for shooters to learn how to use firearms. In 1903, the club moved to its current location on Main Street and began publishing its own magazine, called Baytown Rifle & Pistol News. The journal lasted until 1951 when it was discontinued after being bought by the Tribune-Review Company. The next year, George Prentice founded the Galveston Gun Club which served as a place for shooters to learn how to use handguns. The club continued publication of its own magazine until 1959 when it also ceased publication due to financial difficulties. However, theGalveston Gun Club is still remembered fondly today because of its annual Galveston Gun Show which is now one of the largestgun Shows in Texas.

Baytown is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Baytown is located on the Clear Fork of the Houston Ship Channel and has a total land area of . The community was named after its founder, James Fenton Baynham. The first settlers in what would become Baytown were Methodists from North Carolina who pastoralized land near present-day Montrose Boulevard and I-10 east of downtown Houston in 1839. In 1845, John Sibley founded an agricultural town called Crosbyville which merged with Baytown in 1860 to form one municipality. In 1865, Captain A. Hogg purchased 6,000 acres (2 km²) southeast of Baytown from J.B Cox for $5 per acre (1/4 km²). This was what later became known as "Hogg's Field". The early businesses within Baytown included a sawmill, boat builder and gristmill along Clear Fork Creek; however these enterprises soon closed due to competition fromHouston's establishing industries such as oil production and cotton ginning during the opening years of this new century. One factor that contributed to this lack of growth was bayou flooding which destroyed many homes and businesses between 1900-1920 when it occurred more frequently due to heavy rains caused by Hurricane Wilma overpassing Galveston Island - affecting everything within a five mile radius including some residents for weeks or even months at a time! In 1966 when Houston annexed much of Harris County, most people living outside Rice University thought they would never see their families again because all their property had been taken away includingBayTown! However after watching television coverage of President Lyndon Johnson signing legislation abolishing white primaries & allowing African American candidates into state legislatures we knew that things could not stay like this forever so we started saving money & made plans to move :) After many sleepless nights our family moved on July 1st 1970 from our home on Clear Fork Rd just north side of US 90 (now Beltway 8) down towards US 290 just south side Of I 35... We were able to purchase 3 lots next door to each other on Loop 610 South & built us Our House (& still live there today!)!" The community was founded by Danish immigrants who named their new town for their ship, SS Baytown, which sailed from Copenhagen to Corpus Christi in 1853 with supplies for American colonists fighting for independence from Spain. In 1881, Baytown became an independent municipality when it absorbed portions of Spring Branch and Sugar Land Townships. The first post office opened in 1886. Baytown experienced some significant growth during World War II as military installations were developed here including Naval Air Station Clearwater (now Joint Base Houston-Clearwater) and Naval Weapons Station Galveston (now Fort Worth Municipal Airport). In 1951, Baytown incorporated as a city under the name "BayTown." It grew rapidly during the 1960s through annexation by other nearby municipalities including Spring Branch and Sugar Land Township; however, consolidation eventually ensued due to budget cuts within Harris County government. As a result of this consolidation process, many small businesses closed their doors or went out of business while larger businesses thrived; however, much progress has been made since then to revitalize Baytown into an attractive community where residents can enjoy its unique cultural attractions and easy access to employment opportunities throughout the Houston metropolitan area
